Scored this from a member for $50. Definitely a score. It would’ve been hard to justify at retail, or anywhere near retail for that matter, but stoked on it for what I got it for

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Ok... gotcha. I'll order everything except the ABS cog thing. I'll just reinstall the old one if I can... since I don't need it anyway.

He talks about that seal in his video, and what he did to make it ride correctly. But good call on bringing that up.

Good point (because of the ABS sensor) but as far as all the other parts that go in them, they seem to be the same.

The only thing that ABS tone ring is good for is pressing your new seal into the housing.

There's zero reason to reinstall it.

Need to thank @Dirty Pool for that tip. Search for his posts on rear wheel bearings, he has the best info on this site on the subject.

Correct, except that you need two retainer rings vs one on a non ABS housing.

Ok... By retainer ring... Are you meaning these? And you're saying I need 4 total (2 per side)?

Ya, it does... but it could have sucked a lot worse.

We're still prepped and ready to go. I'm thinking this is just going to push us back to leaving early September.

The ONLY thing that really kind of sucks is this will probably screw over opening weekend, rifle, deer/bear... But that's normally just a friggen mad house that pisses me off anyway.

After doing this job a couple times, I would suggest orienting the inner retainer ring with the beveled edge facing OUTWARD, rather than inward as it comes from the factory. I believe @Timmah! goes over this in his video. Also, using a sharpie to see where the retainer is riding in the seal is much easier to see than using the grease method.

I don't see any reason to do that, and would have a slight worry about increased damage to the seal when installing the axle shafts.

Just press the retainer on slightly less than factory, and the seal rides nicely in the middle.

Lmao... An out of State License and tag is probably out of my price range, now that I'm buying a 20 ton press, the specialty tools I need, the parts... AND the cost of the trip.

But I would LOVE to take you up on that.

The tag, fairly cheap, it’d be the trespass fee that’d get you.

But you’d have 3000 acres to yourself

Dude, you're welcome to come up with us any time. California is a really bad spot to "show off" though lol. The zone I hunt sells out so early it's often a restricted tag (almost need to draw it in the Lottery)

The overall successful hunt rate for my zone last year was only 13%

I talked to the Ranger at the station they set up on 108 on opening weekend to validate tags.

The entire weekend... they validated 6 tags. 108 is THE MAIN road used in and out of D6.
