I kinda found this by accident, but thought worth sharing. I was pricing some parts last night on Rockauto on my phone to get an idea of what costs I was looking at, etc...

On my work laptop today I pulled up the parts and the price had changed a little. Ok, I get that it's been a few hours.

I was ready to order tonight so I did a test, I priced the same parts on my phone, my personal laptop and work laptop. Phone using my phone carriers internet, work laptop using my work provided hotspot and my personal laptop using home internet connection.

Here were the results, including shipping to the same zip code and 5% discount code....

    Home laptop $266
    Work laptop $273
    Phone $251

Obviously I placed the order from phone :)

Just an observation I thought I'd share :)

That is interesting. Assuming it isn’t an anomaly I wonder what the strategy is there. My best guess is if you are looking it up on your phone they figure you might be in a local auto part store price checking the store, so they drop it to make it more worth waiting for. I’d be interested in trying that on other bigger ticket items that people usually price check before buying to make sure they are in the right ball park at least.

I think it's a system glitch on Rockauto. I did an IP trace on all three internet connection I am on right now. Although I am stationary sitting in Louisiana....

Work cellular hotspot IP shows up as me being from Georgia
Cell phone IP shows as me being Texas
Home internet IP shows as me being from Louisiana.

Work laptop also shows being shipped from 2 different places, the other 2 do not.

Is being bias against Cajuns a thing??? Lol! Like Rockauto is being Caj-ist? Towards Louisiana folks? Lol!

J/j, but a it's a system fault worth exploring to get cheaper parts! Good luck guys! :)

Similarly, using a VPN to spoof your location can get you cheaper airfare, rentals and lodging. Sometimes the price difference is quite dramatic. Not sure why things like this exist like this but hey it is a legit way to save money.

    What prices changed?

As a simple test, we could pick a random part.
Then all post the price we get?
