We got locked in at 3.5% back in late 2016, so there is really no incentive to refinancing our house right now. I asked my lender earlier this morning what we can do to drop PMI, since we have more than 20% equity at this point. I'd be satisfied with just dropping that.

I am hoping after the remodel we can drop the PMI. All I know is owning is a heck of a lot cheaper than renting right now. The rental market is even crazier than the housing market.

Man that's a nice place! Those property taxes are almost 1/3 of what I'm paying on a 1500sq ft .25ac cookie cutter suburban home here. Cant wait to get out of here and down there In a little over a month!!

Nicer than what we have been looking at but living on the lake is looking more and more realistic with the way prices in the city are. I'm not paying a 750-1M to live in the area I'm in now and I want a bigger house with a garage.

I know and agree. This one is 25 min closer to Charlotte though. Holly will be going into the office occasionally and a 1.5+ hour round trip just isnt gonna cut it. Plus I have a lot of clients in town, so we still want to be fairly close.

    Well dammit man
45 min one way isn't a bad drive I use to drive 1:15 one way. Personally quality of life vs some inconvenience for a drive every so often I'd take the latter for the former any day. My aunt and uncle just got a place on Lake Norman it's ummmm crazy the prices up there. They needed to be close to a major airport. But they also move down from Conn and were on the water up there.

We have done the long commute and she doesn't want to do it again. Even WFH 3-4 days a week, sitting in traffic sucks on 77/85. We will take a little bit less house/lot to minimize commute, it's why we live walking distance from her office now.

from uptown to 485 on 77 isn't that bad in the afternoons. I go up that way to get my daughter from daycare twice a week. covid has traffic down considerably. I can get from my house to the office in 35mins in the mornings.

Mt. Island is nice, I have a friend whose family has a house on the lake there. That's where I lived when I first moved to Charlotte in 2012. My office is now in Fort Mill so that is why I have been looking at Lake Wylie. Didn't i read somewhere that you are an engineer too? what type of engineering do you do that you're buying these fancy houses lol?

edit: well get me a big money engineer job if it comes up
