Why not just put a bead of silicone or rtv caulk around the top and side of the light if dealer won't cover it...?

Only double cab affected. Access cab has a different, better designed 3rd brake light that screws on from the outside. The double cab screws from the inside requiring the headliner to be removed.

Thats exactly what I did (silicone caulking) after confirming as best as I could that it’s not leaking. I purchased my 18 on 12/30/17 so I’m effected but luckily after having my kids run the hose all over it while I was inside, I didn’t spot any leakage.

Yeah as soon as my warranty is up,I'm planning to do the same. 5 buck tube of caulk once a year saves a lot of headache dealing with this crap

Did the new 3rd brake light fix the leak for you without adding additional caulk?

Mine just started leaking (or I just noticed it for the first time after washing my truck last weekend). Does the new one have a much thicker gasket than the original?

I ordered the part this morning and will install it myself sometime in the next few weeks. Since I live in LA its not going to rain here for another few months, so I have plenty of time to install it.

I can't believe its still happening, i just ran a bead of clear silicone caulk on mine and called it a day---don't want to mess with a leak and the time spent having to deal with the mess and dealer---can barely even see the bead

Get your MD and layer involved, Toyota Corp will act FAST once they get a letter from them. My friend had a 2016 with the same problem and 3 kids in which 2 of them are asthmatic. The MD wrote a letter and he proceeded consulting with a layer the MD recommended. He know drives a 2018 Limited (brand new at the time) and all payments he made including his down payment was credited to his 2018 model. Dealerships tend to give you a vague excuse or simply by telling you that you are out of warranty, they do no effort to go a step ahead to help with or without warranty.

Yep as far as I can tell it fixed it! No additional sealing or anything

Got in the truck this morning after a hard rain last night. Sure enough, wet headliner...
This is bullshit! The truck is used with 90k on it.
How can I fix this? Did replacing with the above part solve the issue?

i’m on a probably 6-7 (3-4 months) washes on the new lamp with zero issues. They just added more “padding” to the light so it fits the body better. I’m willing to bet it will leak again as the new gasket ages, but it’s fixed for now.

it’s not a bad job. Just time consuming. Have a couple beers ready, good music and take your time.

don’t cheap out and do the silicon, just my opinion. If you are gonna do it, do it right

Any chance just a seal job would work? I work in aviation industry, so, I have some good products at my disposal.
