    Welcome to TW.com.
You're better off just selling your truck and buying a truck with a V6. It involves more than just making sure it will fit your transmission.

If you don't want to do that....you may want to look into putting a super charger in.

Yeah I understand, we have a lot of members who made the mistake with buying the I4. Just wasn't the right match for them.

You may also want to consider 'biting the bullet' and waiting until the new Tacoma comes out. I think it will come with a more powerful V6 Vs. the currant 2nd Gen.

You could also consider re-gearing the diff, if torque/acceleration is an issue. But like I said, the super charger option could be good too.

    Have a good one.

Problem with regearing is because you get amazing low end you lose up top and is not all that freeway friendly

i havethought about putting the new 4.0 in my truck. i dont know if there would be different mounting holes or how much wireing harness there would be then needs to be changed but it seems like the best way to add hp. the 159hp from the 2.7 is great from that 4 banger but i need more power. i am affraid if i put a turbo or blower on it i will blow it up

    any ideas?

It's not going to blow up. Consider this to go to the 4.0:

    4.0 motor
tranny (and possibly tc if 4x4)
driveshaft (and possibly front if 4x4)
    engine harness
    ecu
    exhaust (including CATS and sensors)
    engine mounts (more than likely)

.........that's just off the top of my head

You would need all of that to do it properly.

With time and $$$$$ anything is possible,
