I actually have a pair of the kangaroo skin version of them, but have not worn them in a long time. Used to use them for ruck runs.

I used to be a big time gym bro, and we had a team that would run the mud runs. We all power lifted so we basically sucked donkey balls at the running portion but then we showed off during obstacles.

I can’t see those be at all useful in mud. I had a pair as well. Only used them for paddling. Seemed pretty useless to me aside from that activity.

In the thick gross mud they always made us run in, the folks in normal tennis shoes would either have their shoe sucked off or 5lbs of extra weight added to their foot. The five fingers surprisingly slipped in and out of the mud like water and then cleaned off really well.

I could see that being an up side.

For actual trail running, the whole ultra minimalist thing was just a marketing fad that likely resulted in more injury’s than PRs.

Oh for sure I can see that. Anytime a rock or a little stump or something caught me wrong in those it hurt like hell, or caught one of my toes and tried to break it. But they never made mud run/obstacle courses very difficult as far as the trail goes...generally pretty smooth terrain or grass fields and stuff just built along the way. Plus ponds and mud holes.

The idea behind them is sound, problem is, if you are used to wearing shoes (as we all are) it takes a long time (years) to build up the bone/muscle/tendon strength to barefoot trail run like those Mexican Indian Tribes or the Kenyans are able to do. Most people just end up getting Plantar Fasciitis.

This is the truth. If you can build up the strength in all your tissues, then its fine, and often more comfortable once you have, and you have the added bonus of having ultra strong lower limb bones and soft tissues. But most people go too far too fast with them and end up with injuries.

Not enough padding for me. My foot is so sensitive, I can step on a dime and tell if it’s heads or tails..

My solution for a 29er with a MX4 Bakflip. Not ideal, but it works.

Meh. It works OK. I'm not trying to win any awards for looks. I have a bed rack, but then I loose cover function. First world problems.

So, this time you spilled black on the couch. I’m sure getting that protein powder stain out was a challenge and now this.

I need to decide how to transport my bike now. I have a few options in order from cheapest to most expensive.

    1. Remove wheels and put under tonneau cover or in the cab
    2. Buy Max Modular bike mount for bed rack (this may be the best option and cheaper than a hitch mount)
    3. Buy hitch mount bike rack

Another way to look at your list: I ordered these from least to most convenient.
