If you’re asking if you can make it yourself for cheaper? Then yes, you can make your own drawer system cheaper

It's incredibly well made and worth the price if you are looking for a well finished consumer product.

Yes, you could build a functional drawer set yourself for much less, albeit not as well finished likely.

I have a decked system, it’s okay. I wish it was a little bigger but I say that about other things too

For me its neat, but its just too expensive for the utility it provides.

Not a 3rd gen but I have a decked system I just installed. You can definitely build it cheaper but it’s not going to be as well put together. I don’t think in that price range you will find another off the shelf option. Even building a wooden one by the time you invest in casters or sliders, time, and other materials you’d be close to half if you did it right. That’s assuming you have nothing in materials already.

I think they look great and totally well made, just too pricey for me. I ended up making my own version, starting with two drawers. I may add a sliding tray on top to make loading in/out easier of things we carry that don't go in the drawers. The drawers were built to carry two rifle cases. I wanted the top of the boxes to be flush with the wheel well tops. I just secured them with turnbuckles. I can leave them in, run with only one, stack them if I chose too, or take them both out should the need arise. I followed the youtubes for ideas and parts suggestions.

Based on that locking t-handle system, I know exactly which youtube video you got your ideas from :D

Yup! Giving credit where it's due. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-BWmPaBfjQ&t=5s

Hard to find a better solution for me. Rough carpentry at it's best on my side, the youtube dude is more precise, but it worked out great.

Thanks! I appreciate that!! I would have to be way more efficient with my time and more precise in the finished product to feel good about selling for a decent price.

I thought about it though, and then came to my senses!!

would be a good side gig, selling point being bed storage at far less cost than the Deck'd system, only thing is that's something that is hard to ship and those costs would raise the price significantly.

Yeah it’s a great system but for a grand i feel like I could make one well put together for about half the price after total cost buying from them directly with everything including tax I’m looking at almost 1.5k :/ I may just end up building my own and make a schematic and walk through for everyone in the tw!

Shipping would be big $$ It's big, bulky, and heavy. Being in Canada I have been messing around with the idea of becoming a dealer for all those things we need to order from the states, but not sure if I really want to get into a whole side business, and the social media, and the added stress of running a small business. I'm enjoying my free time too much these days.

I think you're on the right track. I used 3/4" plywood, several sheets @ $50 each, plus HDPE for the sliders about $65, no wheels, or bearings to save cost, The locking T-handles were about $80 CDN, from the local truck topper store, the chrome handles were $20 for a pair from Lowes and a gallon of paint $70 (used about 1/3) the rest will be used for annual recover when/if needed. Miscellaneous hardware for anchoring the boxes to the bed, T-nuts, cap head bolts 3/8-16x3/4", turnbuckles etc another $20 or so.

It adds up, but still way less than $1K plus tax and delivery and exchange rate to CDN $$

Good luck with your project, post the results!

About $600 in materials including 2x 48” 500lb locking sliders and 1x 28” slider, 3 3/4 birch plywood sheets, screws, carpet, glue, etc.

Worth it for me but I’ll have a fiberglass shell to harbor it in so it’ll be out of the elements. Decked is the way to go if it’ll be outside all the time.

I got the Decked drawers so I could keep my kids sports equipment in my truck without having to worry about them.
I also keep some recovery stuff and my compressor.
Sure, they could be a little taller to hold larger items but then I wouldn’t really be able to carry stuff in the bed on top of the drawers.

Overall, I’m very happy with them.

to add to its versatility having a couple grab handles mounted somewhere on the outside of box where if you want to remove the whole box to utilize the bed would be a good add on, quick in and quick out when you need the whole bed
