Seeing as how the number sold is less than 5% with a manual I dont think they will be producing them much longer. I enjoy a manual as much as the next guy but they arent doing any r&d on manual transmissions and the autos keep getting better and better. Its only a matter of time before we get a dsg style transmission and even the enthusiasts will want paddles to play with. For reference this is the first automatic car Ive ever owned and Im well over 100 vehicles bought sold drove. Fun yes, effective outside of very specific parameters nope.

Any guesstimates on the date the 2021 press release will happen? Normally it’s around the State Fair of Texas (third week of September).

I still remember my Dad teaching me how to position my right hand to shift 3 on the tree.

Had a 1979 Chevy truck w/a 250 straight six. We replaced it with a rebuilt 350 that had a little higher lift cam, high rise, and headers. The rear end was high geared so 2nd gear was pretty long (~80mph @ redline). The howl of that (650 cfm) Quadrajet 4-barrel would rattle the ashtray.

All that three on the tree talk brought back some memories.

Oh man I hated those Quadra jet carbs! I rebuilt one that the jet plugs were missing! I figured they got sucked in the engine!

I’ve towed a 5,000lb-ish travel trailer with premium SuperFOB, towed great! Overdrive was non-existent in mountainous terrain, as to be a expected. And backing it in reverse was /awful/ - gotta get that 2-low mod!

For fun tried to do a steep hill start, and had to put it in low to get going. But all in all, not bad for such a little engine. I imagine stock the lack of low-end grunt would have sucked

I am looking for a Green Pro or Quicksand TRD Off Road loaded out and both are hard to impossible to find. I am not planing on paying MSRP or over that and I don’t think the $1000 is enough of an incentive.

what one salesman’s told me was that in 2021 Quicksand is gone and Army Green is only for SR5 Trail Edition. So I am not sure what I will do, since the two colors I want are gone from the Pro & TRD Off Road

This is my first automatic as well, and honestly, I'm loving it. I have another vehicle in standard in my driveway though (Mustang) so that compensates for it. Sometimes I just want to drive without the hassle of using both legs and hands. My mindset has gotten more like this as I have gotten older (almost 33). 10 years ago, you couldn't have given me a vehicle in automatic. Funny how times change. Same could even be said for "modding" as well. My tastes have changed and its just not my thing so much anymore.

Thanks. I’ve seen them push asinine things at some dealers here, but I was lucky with the one I bought from.

That’s exactly what I’ve seen at some of the dealers in FL. I got lucky with the folks in Milledgeville when I bought my 2016. I’m going to give that saleswoman a shot at doing right by me again. If she can’t, I’ll look outside SET. Thanks.

We actually stopped by that dealership a couple of weeks ago to look at 4Runner for my wife. We were visiting family up there and decided to stop and look. They were nice and pretty straightforward. They just didn't have exactly what she wanted and inventory is so low, they couldn't locate one like she wanted. Hopefully they'll do right and get you what you want.

No, no no no no. This is the dumbest thing I have read on TW.

Flappy paddle transmission are not serviceable and they cost $20k-$50k for a re-manufactured unit. You can't fix them yourself, and they can't handle slow speeds. This is a design issue, because to crawl along the flappy paddle would need to rapidly pulse the clutch. It doesn't feather the clutch like you would with your foot. Essentially they destroy themselves in stop and go traffic. You want to drive them on the track where you are flying along then its fine, but crawling at idle is the death of them.

I would much rather have the ZF 8HP that is used in everything now from the BMW M5, Rolls Royce, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Aston Martin, to the supra and Dodge Charger. Its a solid box that can handle the power.

A proper manual is always preferred, but flappy paddle boxes are nightmares in everything without a warranty, and in those with a warranty they are in the shop far too often.

I'm no fan of the automatics, but lets be honest, even a CVT is better than a flappy paddle nightmare.
