Was working under my truck the other day and noticed that this part that sits on the transfer case has a crack underneath of it. Can anyone identify the part that all the sensors are plugging into. Is the crack an issue? Appreciate the help. I have an 09 TRD Sport in a manual.

thats your actuator. Its what actually shifts the transfer case into 4wd.

Hard to tell from photos, but if I were you, I'd pull it off and check it out from the inside to see if the crack will let water in.

If not, clean and grease some things and put it back together.

If so, either fix the plastic with some epoxy, buy a new one, etc... Then clean/grease/reinstall.

Replace it!!! These things are problematic as it is and having a crack is only going to add to the issue. Corrosion from moisture intrusion. When is the last time you exercised you’re 4X system? If it’s been quite a while I wouldn’t try it now as it might not work and could get stuck in a spot that limits the drivability of the truck. My $.02

I'd say just pull it and check for moisture, corrosion or crud built up in it. Have some dielectric gease handy and use it to seal up the connections. Maybe search any pick a part, For that plastic cover part.

Alright I'm going to take it apart and see what everything looks like. Appreciate all the feedback. I'll check with the pick a part near me and see what they have. Hopefully I won't have to go this route, but where would you guys go to buy the actuator new and what brand is best?

Can you still engage 4x4? How often do you use 4x4?

Personally I would replace it, but if you dont use 4x4 that often you may be able to procrastinate a bit.

I use 4WD every now and then but not too often. It was still working last time I tried it.

Hey Bass appreciate the offer. I guess since I'm not sure which direction I'm going yet, you can go ahead and sell to Willy. I'll get back with you later in case it's still available.

One more question to bother everybody with. What is the part number on this thing? If anyone knows a good way to find it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Any toyota dealer can tell you. Along with the price. Which will be very expensive. Also a little research should yield some good results.

Personally, if yours is still working, just swap the black covers and keep the new one as a backup. Hate to replace any working OEM part when it comes to electrically controlled items or sensors.

Ok. Finally got around to taking the actuator apart as recommended and checked for problems. Luckily the cracks were not allowing any moisture inside because there is a metal sleeve the bolts are inserted into. I used a JB Weld for plastic to seal the cracks on the cover instead of epoxy as I had some on hand. A couple beginner level questions if anyone has time. Can I just clean up this yellow grease inside the cover? Seems to have got a lot of stuff mixed in with it so I would like to get it out if possible. Also, where are you supposed apply dialetric grease on this part? Appreciate any help.

I would just leave that as is.

Apply dieelectric grease to the sealing area o-rings and the sealing area of the electrical connector before plugging it back in. It will prevent water intrusion.

Ok thanks I'll just leave it alone and apply dialetric grease to those areas. Appreciate the reply

The yellow grease IS dielectric grease. If you want to clean it just use decreased and a rag. BUT BE GENTLE. Q tips work for hard to reach spots. Do not use solvents, brake cleaner or anything with alcohol in it. It will dry the plastic and make it brittle.
