Already done that! It’s seems to be a relay or internal switch.

The band/belt on those are usually thin. Without opening it up id think it was belt first. Power supply, or motor. Not a whole lot to a dryer

I’d go ahead and start tearing into it to gauge the extent of the rot and (most importantly) figure out where the water is coming from. I’d guess it has something to do with inadequate fireplace/chimney flashing

cut the baseboard where it goes behind the fireplace then gently pry it away from the wall with a flat bar
Then cut the sheetrock out where it will be hidden by baseboard. Follow the rot up and out.
Post a pic of where the chimney exits the house if u get a chance

With the door open and my finger pressing the door switch, I had my wife press the start button. The heater/blower comes on but goes off when the start button is released and the drum does not start spinning. I’m guessing it’s the belt, hoping it’s not the motor. I found motors last night starting at $150, but I hope it’s only a $20 belt. I’m wondering now if it might be the timer switch. First it was ants getting in the house, then the washing machine, now the dryer. Anxiety + OCD + 2020 = :annoyed:

Thankfully it was the belt, went ahead and vacuumed out the vent hose while it was out. I guess the idler pulley has a switch that will not start the motor if tripped.

Lint/dust is insidious. Just last night the wife complained of no hot water (never let your wife be all soaped up and run out of hot water). A quick check of the tankless showed the screen covered in dust and not letting in enough air. The water heater is the same room as the drier but in an enclosed cupboard. You know, the one you never look in. Easy fix with a couple of minutes of vacuuming. But there is a ton of dust in the cabinet and on the heater UPS. There another trick, put a large enough UPS on the power supply to run it for at least 30 minutes. Again, should the power go out the wife won't get hit with cold water.

It sucks not knowing the right part number for the belt. Lowe’s had belts for $5 - $14, went to a local appliance store and spent $45 for a belt I knew would fit but now I have a part number. $45 for a 14 year old dryer is still better than $500-$600 for a new dryer!

You need to thank the people who teach you how to work on/repair things. I called my dad today and thanked him for teaching me how to fix things instead of calling a repair company or going out and buying new. Of course he gave me some shit, which was much needed. It saved me $200 plus was fixed within days, no scheduling needed!
