I hate taking my wheels off. So I vote for one of the other two options.

HA! You aren't wrong. May just go with the mount on my rack for convenience/cost. The folding type racks I want are a little more expensive, and small chance we occasionally use other things on the hitch.

What type of tires are you guys running? I live in Houston, all singletrack and crushed gravel. I have Maxxis IKONs that came on the bike, and they worked OK, but i have lost traction when cornering hard. I haven't had it wash out completely yet, but I've lost some confidence in the corners.

That being said, it's a 29er and I'd like to go tubeless. What are your recommendations?

Ikons are great if its dry and smooth single track. Any other conditions and I was all over the place. DHF/Aggressor has worked for me for years over all kinds of terrain, but recently switched to an AssGuy in the front, working pretty well so far but I've got less than 100 miles on it so far so can't make a recommendation. But all an all, the answer to what you should run is highly personal, terrain, riding style, type of bike etc.

100% switch to tubeless and try lower tire pressures. What kind of pressure do you currently run and how wide are your tires?

Lower tire pressure might make enough difference

I'm real excited my bike fits in the bed. REI CoOp brand.

27.5 mid fat tubeless with 1x11 SLX. Tubeless is the way.

I need to ditch the crank bros. Suggestions? Leaning towards spd. I need a quicker and more confident clip in

If I had the skill/tools to fab something up, I would definitely try to do something. Who wants to help me with a weekend project?

Don’t lay your bike down on the derailleur side.., and spd’s are pretty popular. I use one

I always recommend Time ATAC clipless. SPD are also a great choice. Those two are really the only two on the market with solid easy in easy out clip in actions. Crank Brothers don’t have enough surface space and are known to create pressure points on the foot. We talked about pedals about four pages back.

Ah, gotcha. I accidentally clicked the right arrow above "quote" to quote you and it took me to your post of the Jet9 with mismatched pedals.

Too much. I ride almost daily on both concrete and crushed gravel, so I leave them around 25-30. But that's been the case for a while and I've never had issues with traction.

    What do you recommend?

That’s actually not that bad, could possibly go lower depending on the width of the tire. I’m about 225 and on my 27.5x2.35 ride 25-28psi. My stache with 29x3 I ride 12psi front and 15 rear, but that’s an extreme example. The front should be on the lower side.

Tubeless won’t really help with traction as far as I know, only with getting to a lower tire pressure without flatting was much. I’d still recommend tubeless and try lower pressure.

If not a knobbier front tire like the maxxis DHF will help a lot. The bontrager XR4 is solid too and I think that will be a little more aggressive than the ikon but not as aggressive as the DHF. I’ve also been curious about the maxxis dissector and the WTB options out there. It is kind of tough to recommend a tire since I’ve never ridden out there though.

The derailleur can't hit the bed, I tested it.

I’m all right now . That was nearly six years ago. I started riding mtn bike about two years later. This is a much healthier sport / addiction.
