I am sure this has likely been beaten to death on here but I am thinking about replacing the stock fog lights for some LED amber ones. I have been looking at Baja Designs Squadron and KC G4 ambers. They both seem to be good replacements. Any suggestions for what is the best? Or are there others that are better? Thanks!

So I got Baja Design Squadron Pros a few months ago and they are BRIGHT AF.

If you are the kind of person who wants to run fog lights all the time just with regular headlights on, I would recommend something like Morimoto fogs instead. The Squadrons are really for off road use. When I'm driving in a rural area it lights everything up for as far as I can see- I love them. But I definitely can't have them on just driving in the city blinding everyone.

Baja doesnt make road legal fogs to my understanding, they're too bright and have no cutoff, so they would blind other drivers at night. But for offroad use they're great.

Personally, I went with Diode Dynamics SS3 fogs, they have 2 output levels (sport/pro) and come in 6k white, or Amber. They have a clear cutoff and can be use on the road without blinding drivers. I had to use them as my main light once when my headlight low beams went out, and they worked perfectly. didn't get flashed once on an hour and a half drive.

I run the BD Squadrons SAE love them mine are not too bright for on road use. Like the Diode Dynamics Pros but they weren’t out when I got my BD’s.

KC G4's for the win, but get the non amber and put yellow film over them. As Crashnburn80 shows the Amber G4 Version is not as good as the clear version.

Are you looking for amber or selective yellow? The KC G4s are actually amber, Bajas are selective yellow even though they mislabel them as amber. Selective yellow is the better color, it will be higher intensity, provide better contrast and still offer the benefits of long wavelength light for poor weather conditions. However, Baja's SAE units are among the lowest output intensity on the market and not recommended. Diode Dynamics SS3 is by far the best performing fog on the market right now for Tacomas, available in selective yellow, 4000k and 6000k.

Hard to beat the Diode Dynamic SS3 Pros. Check out @crashnburn80 thread. He has provided some amazing in depth information.

Diode Dynamics SS3 pros. Really like the sharp cutoff when I use them on the highway.

I'm pretty sure @crashnburn80 compared amber versus clear. Not amber versus clear with a film on them. That's going to filter out the light and could be lower output than the amber.

I personally have the amber and they throw out tons of light. More to the sides than stock so they illuminate other hazards on the shoulder well.

I have not tested the 5000k clears with the film. The film will remove some light, but the clears are quite a bit higher in output intensity than the amber, so I'd fully expect them to be brighter. The G4s do an excellent job of side illumination, one of if not the best in that regard. Point of reference can be a little confusing though as some trucks came with high power ultra wide H11 fogs stock, and others came with low power very forward pattern H16 fogs.

I'm running Cali Raised LED amber pods.... Cool but they suck imo... gonna swap over to diode dynamic pros

They are not fogs, they are spots. See the thread below that shows Cali Raised 'fogs' as an example of what not to do in the very beginning.

The Diode Dynamics lights are outstanding, you won't be disappointed.

I went morimotos with laminx yellow film. I'm one of those asses who runs them ALL the time. Lots of Backcountry driving, lots of city /highways.

Our lighting in Wisconsin sucks. I like the xbs but want to get brighter ones some day. I know that means I can't run them all the time then. I like that they widen the beam pattern and help light up sidewalks in my neighborhood.. which has a very narrow road. One parked car on each side then only one car can drive down the middle. Neither side car gets 3' of passing room...

I get flashed sometimes but it's because of the headlights and the bumpy roads.. I drove with them off for a long time I just find them useful.. they also let oncoming traffic know that I'm not running my high beams... Yet sometimes they flash me then I'll flash back.
