My 2020 SR only has 7500 miles, so this is not a case of needing a new battery. It's more focused around upgrading. To clarify, the Genesis dual battery set up is not an option. I cannot justify this for my use.

I have a Wagan Tech Inverter that I'll be installing in my truck for the purpose of camping (inflating an air mattress, charging phone, nothing excessive). Not as fan of 12V outlets. I want to replace the factory battery with one of the following:

    1) A higher quality group 27 that will work well for my minimal camping needs as well as using some auxiliary lights (light bar, bed lights).

    2) increase battery size to a group 31 dual purpose. Something like the Duracell AGM deep cycle. 800 CCA, 105ah@20 hr, reserve capacity - 200. would also install the CBI group 31 battery tray to accommodate this size.

    3) other battery size/ recommendations.

    Thanks.

#1 from your list is probably the easiest as you can upsize from a 24 to a 27 by just getting a battery tray from a 2nd Gen with Tow Package.

Use a wall charger for periodic AGM battery maintenance or OV Tune has an ECU software fix for 3rd Gen.

Running at 34R Odyssey Extreme in my truck. After I've installed a few in some of the "problem child" cars in our fleet at work, I was sold. Yeah, they can be a little pricey but they've out performed all the other brands we've toyed with before.

I boosted the voltage on my truck with a custom ovtune. Been running it almost 2 months now.

Anybody have the part number for the larger battery tray? How close does the battery get to the oil fill neck?

Are these lighter than stock? Isn't that area prone to stress cracking with hard-use?

is there no other way (other than OV Tune rewrite ECU) to run an AGM battery on our 3rd Gen trucks? (And not have to connect it to a wall charger once a month).
I have a friend with a brand new $300 Optima YelowTop D75 I was going to swap for stock but won’t even try it if I need to go through the huge hassle of an OV Tune just to squeeze a few more volts out of the alternator to charge the AGM battery properly.

You can run an AGM without altering the charge voltage. Life and performance will be lower than optimal, so you are not getting all the benefits you pay for with an AGM. I would avoid Optima though, ever since the brand was acquired and they moved production from US to Mexico the battery quality has gone way down hill. They are not the legendary batteries the brand was built on and typically don't last very long. I would opt for Northstar or Oddyssey, both the highest quality made in the USA.

Thank you. I'm contemplating springing for the Northstar27 so I don't have to alter my 3rd Gen stock battery tray (and add a ton of unnecessary weight to the front end along with my winch bumper and eventual winch) then eventually get the VF Tune to increase the alternator output voltage to Northstar's recommended 14.6V-14.8V.. (Excellent write up by the way, I diligently ready through the whole thing a few times nerding out hardcore)

Once this is dialed in, I'll wire up a cutoff switch off of the Northstar to the parallel battery wiring to the bed of the truck ready to quick-connect whenever ready to take off on trips to my 100 Amp Hour battery box with solar charge controller, portable 300W solar array, AC converters and plugs for off-grid trips. Should be a solid setup for the freezer, aux lighting, 12V electric heat blankets etc.

Thank you again for your super intelligent/helpful insight.

A 27 Series will actually overhang your stock tray, you can grab a tray from a 2nd Gen with tow package then you would be good to go.
