In my 35 years of driving I cannot remember ever having a cracked windshield. This one I get next will be the fourth windshield in a little over a year. Insane! Is there anyway I can stop or decrease these issues? I have this windshield one week and it has a very long crack from the very bottom straight up into my vision. Why does this 2019 have these breaks that spread so fast?

Do you drive behind a lot of big dump trucks? I have a big pit on my windshield that I got maybe 5 years ago, still hasn't spread. I know there's the whole OEM/aftermarket glass debate but that really shouldn't matter as that more has to do with clarity/fitment. I haven't heard of third gens having super fragile windshields, but obviously people are welcome to tell me how wrong I am.

What state do you live in and what were your previous cars.

My dad has never had a crack either in the past 50 years, but as soon as he moved to AZ he has to replace the windshield on his jeep twice a year.

Modern windshield are thinner to save weight, (help meet EPA Regs). And that also reduces their strength. All the cars & trucks we have had in the last ~7 years are total shit windshield wise compared to years ago.

Lol been driving since 1978. Windshields were crap then and crap now. In 1981 I replaced three in my chevy truck. Went 20 years before I replaced another on a 4Runner. In 2017 I replaced one on my Tacoma. So 5 in 40 years or so. Don't blame new vs old, they all crack.

Yes they all can crack from all years, it’s glass after all. but do some research, it’s a very common complaint.

It's a crap-shoot most of the time, but a lot also has to
do with the crap on the roads, following distance, following the wrong vehicles (trucks and trailers)

A lot of it has to do with windshield angle and driver and location. Look up Jeep windshields. The Tacoma has a more upright windshield than my Tundra for example. The Jeep is even more upright. My wife drives a new CRV. She went through two windshields last year and two flat tires even though the CRV has a hella sloped windshield. However, she follows six inches behind the vehicle in front of her and hits every hole and curb known to man. Slope and driving style. I won't ride with her unless I need her as a DD lol. Then I am fine with her driving.

I have 2020 that I got a chip the first month. Was able to have it fixed. Just took another rock today, moving my daughter back to Tempe Az for school. I don't think this one will be able to be fixed. New windshield here I come. Ugh.
