I’m pretty sure they would let you switch between a drifter/nomad but don’t quote me on that

I'll get on the list and hash it out with them as I go.

    Until then...

On their website, they sell the Drifter for the 00-06 Tundra and the Nomad for the 07+ Tundra.

I was speaking to them about the dimension differences from the Tacoma Drifter to the 06 Tundra Drifter and they said the top portion was 6" wider because the Tundra is about 6" wider. So I asked if that came with the larger bed from the Nomad (54" wide vs 48" wide) since it's wider anyway. I was fine with either way, just curious since there's the space.

The reply I got on IG was that I could specifically order a Nomad for the first gen Tundra (even though that's not an option in the dropdown) in order to get the wider bed. I'm down for that, but curious if they're dimensionally identical and I'm just getting a wider mattress for the extra $1,000 difference in price.

I doubt it, but can anyone here help me understand the difference? If I'd be paying significantly more for just a wider bed pad I'd just make my own. If there's further differences between an 06 Tundra Drifter and 06 Tundra Nomad I'd love to hear them. Maybe it doesn't exist and I'm more dyslexic than I thought.

There's a couple of 1st gen Tundra guys on here. Is there just about a 3" space on each side of your mattress? Comparison to Tacoma Drifter?

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding the conversation I had with them on IG a month or two ago and I'm nuts haha certainly possible, if not likely.

Why would you want a magnet-less entry? The magnets allow my dog to run through the net without issue, they snap back together on their own after entry/exit, and they allow me to pin the net out of the way temporarily. I suppose velcro would be a bit more bug-proof, but I've not had issues with the small gap between magnets in our bug net.

It's not just a wider bed pad. The whole camper is wider, specifically the bed portion. You couldn't just make it yourself unless you built a camper from scratch

I’ve seen a drifter on a tundra and with the wider truck bed, it makes for super tapered walls. I’d much prefer the wider sleeping platform... though not sure if I $1000 prefer it.

The whole sleeping are is 6” wider.
Not just the pad. And I would 100% get a Nomad on a first gen tundra if that’s the option available.
    No question about it.

It was easiest :D otherwise, i would have had to cut the second panel in a certain way and turn it around so the magnets/Velcro would fit both sides, etc. This way is more plug and chug!

Magnets are still there to use if you want to.
So in essence.. I now have three entryways! Magnetless is a bit better in this case since it’s more gentle on the binder clips.

What I'm saying is that the Drifter is already 6" wider for the Tundra than it is for the Tacoma (to fit the wider truck).
So if one was to order the Nomad and it was the exact same width as the Drifter (1st Gen Tundra specifically) then is the only difference the mattress?

I already said this in my previous post but will try to make it more clear. Getting a Drifter for your Tundra will give you an upper camper (imagine the roof top tent part of the camper) identical to all the other drifters. The unique part is the shell made to fit the tundra bed size. It is wider at the base but will be the same width as every other drifter at the top.

No. It’s not. The drifter sleeping area is the same size regardless of vehicle.
The nomad is 6” wider and you being fortunate enough to have a first gen tundra now have the option of getting either one.
Make the right choice. Get the Nomad. You will be so happy you did.

$1000 for 6” of more sleeping space anyday.

It’s not just the mattress becoming wider. The Drifter doesn’t have space between the tent walls for another 6” of mattress.

I’m looking at selling my entire truck to move to a Tundra/Nomad setup if that means anything to you.

Ok so - my power source is going to be in the rear seat area of the truck. For those with a similar setup - where are you running cables? To the spot under the drivers seat? I thought there may have been a penetration in the rear wall?

There are several locations all over the cab that you can use. The rear outermost corners of the cab have very large pass through grommets.

I attached a super descriptive photo for your perusal:

standard Drifter is about 54" wide at the roof, 62.5ish at the base
1st gen Tundra Drifter is same at top - about 54" but 6 inches wider at base = same bed size but more pronounced slope from bedrail up to the top
Nomad for full size is six inches wider at top AND six inches wider at base AND about 1.5" taller in the cab section AND about 1.5" taller in the roof - so wider bed. plus it is about 3" taller overall with about 1.5" extra bed height for bedding

I would 100% go with what @tacomgee said.... full sized Nomad, the extra bed width and overall height are money

    Nomad it is.

Thank you all for your clarifications. I'm sold. Now to order :D I need it by early 2022 so here's to hoping

Should be about 3" shorter than the height of a 07+ Tundra model. I wonder if that affects price.

    Thanks again, all!
