Houston area (along with DB's not from Houston) BS thread

OK Texans, quick question for y'all. Gonna be in Houston to pick up my new dog this Friday and Saturday. Figured to get some good grub when I hit town Friday night. Gonna be stayin in the Cypress area. What's a good local place to grab a bite in that area?

My rule of thumb is look for a dive that has a bunch of police cars in the parking lot. Parked. They're inside eating. I've never been disappointed following this strategy.

Cops always know where the best tasting, best value for the $$ grub is. Especially true of Mexican and soul food restaurants.

 

Generally a good concept but these days it's unlikely to see a bunch of any type of vehicle anywhere...

 

You ain't been in Texas recently. Folks seem to have forgotten there's a pandemic on and are continue to "engage in risky behavior."

In further consideration of that, I recommend bringing your own food and hiding out in the hotel for safety's sake.

 

Figured to get a to-go order from somewhere and do just that. Was sorta thinkin BBQ. That and a few Shiners and I should be set for the evening.

If anyone needs a tacoma-express service between south Georgia and Houston let me know. Beds gonna be empty besides a cooler.

 

In that case Rudy's BBQ is a Texas chain (started in San Antonio and has grown) that smokes its own brisket (6/10), sausage (7/10), and turkey (7/10). Their creamed corn is insane and addictive. Their "sause" is pretty damn good, and they send bottles of it to deployed troops because A) DFACs suck and B) they're cool like that.

There are a couple in range of Cypress.

 

Make sure to stop at Bucees as well if you've never been. They've got good snacks, super clean bathrooms and something to experience if you're coming to Texas. Also their jalapeño sausage rolls are amazing.

The yee yee kids would love it too I'm sure. There's been a lot of talk already about the new Bronco and more people are bringing their older ones out. I've been noticing a shift to a younger audience out there recently. Last week some kid was talking about my car and was like "Oh those wheels must add like 25HP" and talking about how his car would drag these people and then he drove off in a Mazda CX5 with some car club stickers on it.
