You should start a thread on detailing. Hell, I’d follow it. I gotta know how you do that to a 20 year old engine.

Hello....I purchased new, and have always kept it clean. That’s why it takes me forever to do anything mechanical on my truck because I clean everything as I go. Manifold isn’t painted. Just keep it and the throttle body polished.

Question about brakes: I put slotted and drilled rotors on my gfs second gen and when braking at low speeds makes a clunkish/popping noise. Is this normal? Brakes fine the rest of the time

They brake good overall. I mean everything is tight, so I’m not worried about them being installed wrong. Seen this online so maybe it’s normal? Not sure

I just gave a couple speed ups and slow downs around the block. So I didn’t properly bed the brakes, was too hungry for dinner

Hit this milestone on the way back from a long road trip. And then immediately ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere Utah after leaving Colorado.

Also managed to crack the front upper cross member / core support at some point when I was wheeling. Guess it's time for a drill and weld.

It's just the start of things to come!

Give your body mounts a good look on the core support.

Are bad body mounts known to cause more flexing in the core support leading to cracking? If mine are bad what's the go to replacement, OEM or poly?

I put a piece of 1” x 1/16” or 3/32 angle iron to support my hood pin plate I made, if you cut enough of the angle iron to fit in and around the various nutserts / threaded hole thing-a-mabobers, hood height adjusters, and anything else in the way you can reinforce that core support. I used 5/16 bolts and used factory holes and a couple of my own. You can’t see the angle iron since it’s in the core support - but where I drilled / used holes is visible here under the hood pin holder. That core support is paper thin so welding it is like putting a piece of scotch tape on it imo - not that it would hurt to of course. That area is flimsy af though.

Bedded properly this morning, seems to have cleared the issue.

not exactly today but yesterday I drove over from Seattle to Bozeman. truck did great, but at the higher altitude and on some of the steeper grades i could definitely feel the high gearing...
On the way over in Eastern Washington:
    upload_2020-8-13_9-55-45.jpg
and taking a break in Northern Idaho:
    upload_2020-8-13_9-57-3.jpg

Also saw this old car off in the bushes didn't get close enough to see what it was since there were about 8 different no trespassing signs at the mouth of the road it was off of but cool nonetheless:

You picked the worst rest stop in Eastern WA, that little valley right before the hill always smells like manure and it has zero services nearby haha. Should've stopped at Exit 272 and said hi

thanks for the info! i was just trying to get there in one day so stopping wasn't real high on my priority list but i'll be making trips back and fourth to seattle at least once or twice a year. i'll need to check it out one of these trips though! Idaho was one of the most beautiful places that I drove through on the way over. Almost made me rethink my choice of school since i also got into the University of Idaho in Moscow:D;).
