Almost every new case has the option though some need a kit to do it.

Used to play tons but stopped. The inventory interface is just too clunky for me. I also never quite got the hang of the bullet drop on some longer range guns which made the whole game a bit of a struggle.

Ya I'm not the biggest fan of it either but I believe they were trying to make it more realistic with that. The game in general is a big learning curve really have to sink some hours into it to get good.

    Newb question of the day.

Just for the pure purpose of my enjoyment of learning new things, I think I'd like to check Linux out. And words of wisdom? Unfortunately I can't dedicate the pc that should be finished to it or my laptop due to the need to run my windows based ham applications. But I've done very minimal reading and seems like I could just dual boot on the pc and it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Thanks for the patience everyone. I appreciate it.

Yup, you just setup the PC to dual boot.

Some good tips in this video as well. https://youtu.be/Co6FePZoNgE

I've played in Linux for decades. I don't feel the need to daily it yet though. Windows is still the compatibility king on when it comes to gaming and productivity but Linux does keep getting closer to being there.

Dual boot is fine, but Virtualbox is also a fine option. I actually run my entire linux environment in virtualbox on my work computer and it does really well. With the windows 10 virtual workspace thing, its easy to swap back and forth between windows and linux. It is good to have a fair amount of RAM though.

As far as other advice goes - don't judge linux by just one distro. I've used many of them over the years, and while everyone loves ubuntu for some reason, I run into more weird problems there than anywhere else. They have a habit of tweaking packages a little too much for my taste.

I also recommend getting to know the terminal interface, its my favorite part of linux.

As far as nice out of the box experiences, lately I've been super impressed with Manjaro. I run it on my work machine and it has been rock solid.

    Windows 10, 2004 and enable WSL2

Then install Ubuntu 20.04 from Microsoft Store. This way you have the best of both worlds. You can go ahead and install vscode, git, python etc on Windows side, and run Docker as well so have a nicely integrated environment where you have both Windows and Linux containers simultaneously.

I'll have to look into the virtualbox too. I'll send the specs of what I ended up with for the pc build. Due to a complete cut in overtime I had to make a lot of compromises, but I'm sure it'll be just fine for starting out.

I run raspbian for my ham radio setup, headless. I've tried to learn the right way and set up as much as I can from the terminal. And now diving into the language stuff and dealing with git a bit is also helping with some exposure. I know it's just scratching the surface though.

Give me a month. RL is my jam.

Why a month? We have 3 people (Sterdog, Salty and myself) but would be nice to have a 4th to sub in when one of us aren't available :)

It's like the defenders were flying and just avoided the ball for you  Salty and I were passing it pretty well to each other. We just need to play more together and practice.

So I have various machines here for various work, and generally speaking on a machine where:

    (a) I have Windows, it's Windows 10, 2004 release, WSL2, along with Ubuntu 18.04 or Ubuntu 20.04 upgraded to WSL2 kernel, and running alongside docker. This setup gives me the best flexibility where I have native Windows, and a thin layer of containerization via WSL2/Hyper-V(ish) to run docker containers as well as vendor-ported images like Ubuntu.

    (b) I have Linux. In this case, it depends on the base distribution I choose which these days I favor Fedora-Workstation and Fedora-Server because they track the most recent changes rather nicely. With Fedora I could run nearly the latest software all tested inside SELinux framework for added security. Generally in this Linux-only machine I would just run docker (actually podman) and KVM to get the best of all worlds: containerization where I want lightweight things, and full virtualization where I want more isolation.

It's not often I dual-boot these days and usually it's because I favor Linux and FDE (Full-Disk Encryption) where I run Windows secondary as a development box where I absolutely need vendor-supplied tools (for which no Linux version exists).

    I appreciate the offer.

It's more of an appearance thing so the wife doesn't notice how much is coming through the door at once. Hahaha.

I'll probably order it next week and then I'll head down to the store for a monitor and keyboard.

    Then, I should be good
