OEM Camera Connection below Dash

let me know what you do. i currently have a 2010. i put in a 2014 entune and i got a harness made by a member on ebay to relocate the backup cam from the rear view to the radio works fine.
I cut the wire that sends feed to the rearview but can just re connect it. but i want to get a car play radio and getting the backup cam to the new radio is the 1 thing i have no clue how to do

Hey guys! Quck note to say thanks for the information and great tutorial. It's a lot more than entertainment! Just did this mod exactly as described, only 4 wires to mess with:
1. Signal+
2. Signal -
3. Camera trigger to radio
4. RCA to radio

Install took about 30 mins tops taking my time and routing wires with zip ties. I did use a good quality RCA cable with a gold tip that I had laying around from an old dvd and I get no interruptions or black lines as some members reported. I also used some 24AWG ferrules as terminals for all wires and flattened the ti; they worked like a champ. (Used that option because I had bunch of those from a kit I bought at Amazon for about 5 bucks; Search Amazon for "TOUHIA Wire Ferrules Insulated crimp pin terminal kit" if interested) . The quality of the video is good on your big screen, you will get a good image but with some pixelation because you can tell that this camera was definitely made for a small screen. It is still very convenient and especially the fact that no bundles of wires will have to be run from the back of the truck, etc. Thank you again and keep up the good work!

 

Looking good! Tell me about this ferrul thing. You flattened the tip and jammed them in the D Sub connectors?
Did you use 24g wire for reverse or something less?
Did you use a a 3ft RCA for the camera?

 

I did squeeze the tips flat (sorry I missed that detail). I used about 4ft. of the RCA cable because I wanted the radio assembly to be flexible enough for next time I have to remove it to add an add-on to the radio. I already added a front cam/DVR for it, but I still have an available RCA video and audio input on the back of the radio radio for either a TV tuner or an andoid box later on...

Did your truck come with that USB/Aux combo? I have to add USB to mine and I don't love

For the reverse signal I used a wago connector (But you can use solder or any other crimped terminal) to join the head unit radio's trigger wire to a short piece of 22 gauge wire. (I already had a roll of wire that I also use for other projects) I did trim a few strands on the wire to make it fit the same "ferrule" terminal size to the sidekick panel OEM trigger plug.
Now, as far as the USB plugs and the camera switch... My truck is a 2010 and it originally came with a 5cd changer. The truck also came with the normal aux input for headphone plug on the same panel under the AC controls from the factory. The port plug that I removed from my truck is this one:

Since the new radio came with a bunch of USB's and RCA inputs, I added an extension/cable adapter port to combine the headphone and USB inputs. With this little gadget I can listen to any music coming from an MP3 player, a cell phone or just about anything via audio cable and I can do the same via USB and charge it at the same time, or use it just to charge, etc... you get the point...
I bought the items online on Ali express. (I don't work for them or get any royalties, but you can certainly find some cool stuff at crazy prices straight from China if you don't mind the wait for the shipping, it does take a long time to ship. If you are ready to pull the trigger on your new radio, I'm sure you can get this stuff on other US online stores with fast shipping. Anyways... the port plug/extension you see in my dash is this one:

Or if you don't want to spend the money, you can basically use about any small on-off switch that fits your existing blanks in your truck dash, like my old DIY front camera on-off switch here:


Bottom line: If your radio has available USB or RCA inputs for a front and rear DVR/Camera, you can be creative and get really good CAMS for reasonable prices. They are indeed required in some countries, and they are in fact a great cheap investment if you ever get in some type of accident. I use mine for my own peace of mind liability/insurance protection.
And again, do some research about your radio install here on this website, there's an amazing amount of excellent information at this forum, not to mention an abundance of creative club member minds!. ok so i’m back again for info.
I’m now getting a kenwood double din. i want the backup cam on the radio. But i don’t want it on the rearview anymore.

for my 14 i swapped i cut that red wire on the camera input but this is telling me to use the contacts for that red wire for signal

Who can help me? is this the basic way to do it? or is there another way? been searching for hours

Hey everyone. I have my backup camera playing showing up on my Pioneer head unit. I bought a harness off eBay about 6 years ago. Anyways I took truck in to replace evap core now my backup camera is a black screen. It still triggers when I put it in reverse. I pulled everything out and checked connections....I think. Still getting a black screen. Any suggestions???

 

Are you getting a picture in your rear view camera still?

It could help to fighure out which part of the connections to check first.

 

No I disconnected it when I did install. Black screen on head unit.

 

As a diagnostic, I would suggest to reconnect it to see what happen, while keeping the headunit disconnected (back to original configuration). If the picture is also blank into that screen, this would mean that the factory video signal from the vehicle does not go through.

 

I thought about that. When I did the install I cut that wire and connected new harness to it. I don't think it was the camera as it was working when I took it in for the repairs. Unfortunately the evap core is behind the dash, so they pretty much had to remove all the dash. I will have to see if I can find the wire to hook it back up.

I ordered pins from this website. whopping 50¢ and change shipped. and they didn’t work.
so i rigged up a connector i think like a spade or something and bent it. and jammed it in the connector and it works fine.

 

Do you still have that members info? I have a 2015 radio in my non-wired 2007 and want to connect the radio to my OEM tailgate camera.
