Im also not a short term trader by practice. I usually buy to hold. If I play something to get a quick gain, I inevitably cash out early and sacrifice more upside to tuck the funds back into something long. Just more comfortable with that.
It’s better to have earnings to pay taxes on than to have no earnings

I did something similar with Xilinx around the same age. Except it was my mom and she was getting ready for work one morning.

I was looking at getting into Cisco. I read an article on it and the company fits my profile of stocks I've wanted to own for a while. If it dips below $40 tomorrow, I am getting it.

It may not be the big profit, but it should recover as we go along. You can always average down if you play it smart.

sounds to me like the trailing % actually does tighten as the stock price increases. That's a pretty nifty strategy.

You just keep adding shares or sell when your new ones have value?

Good time to buy and hold Cisco? They are down 11% today (worst drop in 10 years apparently)

I've been looking for some "opportunities" lately. This seems like a solid one

I bought. So probably not. I think they said they forecast a weak Q3 which, shocker. People probably bailed and parked in someone who has a better Q3 outlook. I think my exit strategy will be long term on CSCO.

yeah the forecast news has probably been factored into the price as of today. So I'm thinking it's a good time to buy as a long term hold

possibly, but it'd be a long term hold, so the drop today seems like enough to get me in

Okay ish dividend too so worth it to hold long term if it takes way long to recover, too.

Maybe, but still only yielding 2.99%. I would love to buy at a 4% yield like AVGO offers sometimes.
