So I quit my career in the restaurant industry to jump into my family’s business. I have 16 days between jobs. So.. naturally I’ve been drinking. My bike has been sitting for... 3 days ...

I went out to just start it ... I was super hungover. And of course wearing little to nothing.

The Buell in my avatar is always parked in gear. They had an unfortunate habit of rolling forward when parked sometime without any type of slope or incline involved. I saw several busted up fairings back them from owners not doing this.I was warned early on by my dealer to park in gear. Only bike I've ever owned where this has been an issue.

theres a lot of back and forth here but the reality is old Harleys have no safety in this regard, Suzukis require a clutch in, and every other bike in the world for the most part works the same.

If you ever look at the parts breakdown for a Harley Davidson sidestand, which they call a jiffy stand, it's more involved than any of the Asian or European bikes designs. If the bike rolls forward, even a little bit, a metal tang engages into a slot that prevents any further movement. I'll bust on Harley as much as anyone and in fact worked for a dealership for 14 years part time but some of their stuff is really well though out and solid materials.

Yeah! It's a pretty cool design. Lemmy who used to write for Revzilla did a great article on it:

All I know... is that I flew like a fucking slingshot launching a pebble....

My old street bike had the safety feature of kickstand down and it’d turn off... but it was a pain... because as the bike got older the sensor with the kickstand got old... and would just shut my bike off randomly while riding

I always turn my bike on in neutral while I gear up too. So much of a habit that I didn’t even know I could start it in gear.

I’m way to old to comprehend that video,,, and I’m glad. I never park in gear and always start with the clutch lever in........ unless I’m kicking an old one over.

    I always remove those.
Jumps, curbs, potholes..... any of those kills your motor and that sucks.

Never ran into that issue on my Sportbikes. Need a supermoto! Might look into removing it on the grom.

I've had it happen once riding offroad on the BMW. Rutted out and bouncing around and it stopped me, not a big deal though. It's stopped me from riding off with the stand down more than that.
