I helped a buddy replace a heating element and figured there would be lots of stuff but it was really simple. And the belt size was surprising.

Tile question, if anyone can offer some much needed help please!!
I have backer board(Durock) up. I was told to mesh tape the seam then aquadefense over the seams and screw heads. I’m seeing multiple videos where “thin set” is put over seams and then the aquadefense. Stupid question I know, but what exactly is used for “thin set”?? I asked for it at Lowe’s and I was turned to the aquadefense and told that will work. I looked all over the isles for something saying thin set or anything close. Didn’t see anything.
Part 2 of this question is now I have aqua defense over half my walls. Can I put this thin set over the top of this stuff or am I totally screwed and need to take it out???
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Thinset is time mortar. Guessing aqua defense is a type of waterproof membrane. I used kerdi and you can apply thinset over top no issues. Infact you use that to seal seems and then obviously apply the tile overtop with the mortar

So, just To be sure, a “quick set” mortar would be same as thin set and I’m okay to put that over the seams. Then aquadefense over that?? The aquadefense is a membrane type to block moisture.

Had to look up aqua defense, never seen it before. Looks like their are some issues with with the curing. So I’m not so sure I would use aqua defense. Maybe some professionals here can chime in. Personally I would recommend if you want a waterproof membrane covering the durock, I would use Schulter Kerdi. It’s a little pricey but is amazing stuff. You apply it with thinset. Then lay the tile over it with more thinset. It’s designed for baths and showers. Home Depot sells it although not sure they have Kerdi in the stores but you can order it from them online.

Ok, I’ll look into that. I can see why there may be some cure issues. Where I’ve applied it thick, it’s still wet looking. I’ve just quit and I’m going to let it do some drying. Thanks for info!! Greatly appreciated.

I also recommend the Schluter Kerdi. If you have a Floor & Decor near you, they stock a lot more than HD and their Pro desk can order anything in the Schluter catalog with a lot less headache than the "Pros" at HD. There are a ton of Schluter videos online on how to use their stuff. I recently redid our master bath with it and it wasn't too hard to work with.

Finally put some gravel down on the RV pad. No more sinking into the mud when leaving/parking. Only bummer was that the gravel showed up the day AFTER I had the Bobcat.

Kind of a pain but you can run the truck back and forth over it.

Thanks. After spreading it, I packed it down with the truck while my dad feathered in more gravel over the depressions.

I used aqua defense for my shower install and it went on fine, I brushed it on (only because I didn't have a small 3-4in roller) but I made sure to only put on enough to coat, let it dry, then applied a second coat the next day. If you allow enough dry time it works just as well!

This being said, I did use that kerdi orange waterproofing around the corners/edges of the niches, because I had a 4" wide roll of if from a job I did a while back . If you look close enough you can see it built up around those niches

I've been in this house less than a year, the back corner had a bit of clutter that I've been clearing out. I gave the tin building to a guy on Craigslist, free to whoever disassembled and hauled away.

I had to pay to have the self-pour pad broken up and hauled off. Vines killed off the Cherry tree, had a crew remove and grind the stump.

The previous owner rented the property, last tenant hauled in a bunch of earth and had put pavers on top for her lawn furniture- she took the pavers with her and left a 20' box of sand covered with plastic. I hauled that off yesterday, I'll be spreading seed soon.

Must have been some special pavers. Moving is miserable enough without putting yourself through that.

my wife wanted to take our old security camera system with us but after crawling through the attic and installing it in the dead of summer...I said HELL no. we ended up walking with a pretty penny out of that sale so I wasn't worried about something that was only $200, outdated, and would have been a b***h to install in the new house.

They weren't there when I purchased the house, I didn't know that's why the sand was there until I was talking with a neighbor about removing the sand and he told me.

Decided because it apparently wasnt hot enough yesterday i needed to do some work. So i emptied the garage, swept it clean and installed the rubber i've been storing for weeks. Turned out great! I still need to add my reducer at the garage edge but thatll be done today.
