Greetings all, I had the frame rust recall voodoo spray done on my '17 this week and they gave me a 2020 as a loaner. My question is this: It seemed significantly more peppy than my '17. I don't believe they made any changes to the motor/tranny for '20. A few people I've spoke to said this is another Taco thing, different trucks having their own personality powerband wise. Has anyone else experienced this?
This is most certainly not a complaint, I am fine with the power my truck has, I just found the difference to be quite noticeable. My truck only has 35,000 miles on it so I doubt anything is getting tired.

I believe your truck computer learns your driving style. If you reset it and drive more spirited you should notice a difference.

I remember reading the procedure somewhere.

obviously That one is new and hasn’t adapted to anyone yet.

Maybe it was a difference in the suspension too? Stiffer suspension feels more peppy?

Your '17 could just need a tuneup.

Based on the miles crud buildup on plugs and stuff.

It could be you're driving the loaner like the rental that it is.

    If it's the 3.5L camry it's over 300hp, they're awesome. If it's the 2.5L not so much.

Have you had the ECU TSB applied? If not, ask them to hit it with TSB-0058-18 or TSB-0062-18. There's a small power bump there.

If they won't help you, then you can do it yourself:

I’m not sure what it was, but I’m pretty sure it was a 2.5L. I feel like I would have noticed it when I stepped on it if it had 300hp

It was probably a 2.5L you pretty much have to order the 3.5L in TRD and XSE.

    this and that...
i do believe every vehicle has a variance in hp/tq that its advertised at. meaning my truck stock for stock, and dynoed at the same time and same place might dyno differently than yours, or hers, or his. another thing could be because its a 2020 its probably up to date with all the tsb and revisions and what not. OR! maybe you said it yourself. its 35k. but we dont know if it was babied miles or rough miles. so many variables.

I told them I couldn't be without a truck for a week and they didn't even argue. I think its their regular loaner, it was set up with normal plates and had about 2500K

I asked if it was up to date at the first servicing and they claimed to have checked, but now I can be more specific!

In 2020 Toyota recalibrated the transmission logic.
    I traded my 2017 for a 2020. Definitely a noticeable difference.

If I recall correctly, I think there were some tweaks to the transmission programming and maybe throttle mapping, but nothing major. Same engine/transmission combo, but I'll admit my 2020 drives better than my 2017 did. Like others have said, if you get the latest ECU TSB, you'll probably notice a bit of a difference.
