Hey everyone. As the title says I'm looking for a small toolbox/storage bin for the bed of my truck. I will be using it to store gear, supplies, and tools for mountain biking so there's no need for it to be huge. I definitely don't need one of those full size toolboxes that take up the entire front portion of your bed. I've also come across the undercover swing case and while it does look nice, I don't like the idea of having to drill my bed to mount it. Basically I want something small, lockable, weatherproof (at least somewhat), and something that can mount to the bed rails so I don't have to drill my truck. Any good options out there? Show me what you've got!

I have an old rolling tool box that I am using now. It a bit too big for my gear, but it is all black and hard to see inside the Softopper. I have this arriving next week:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HVCPT4W

They had them at HomeDepot on sale also. I had some reward points to spend, so Amazon, it was.

That one will be lower profile than what I have now.

Is there any way to mount that @tonered? I don't have a bed cover so I'll need it to be hard mounted to deter thieves.

That's exactly what I use, ratchet strapped to the front of the bed. Small enough to put in the backseat if I need to. It's definitely not secure at all though.

    this and that...
i know you said you didnt want it to take up real estate in the front part of your bed. still, i would recommend the uws toolbox made for tacoma. hell, i dont even use mines for tools. its strictly access storage thats safe, secure, and weatherproof. it binds itself from the inside to the tracs of the bed. you aint getting this free from underneath. at first i was apprehensive cause like you, i like my bed free, but now i wouldnt have it any other way. comes in three finishes and you can get it slimlined too so it carries a smaller more discreet footprint; which is perfect for the tacoma.

I have only leave stuff in my bed when I had my roll-up tonneau or Softopper on. I just tie them down with ratchet straps.

There was a post a while back about someone who bolted down storage box about this size.

Cool! I'm looking forward to it. Mine goes on the right side and I lay my bike over it.

I don't think my current box would fit in the back of the cab without making a platform, which is another reason to like this new one.

I'll second the swing case. With out a bit of extra work 2020's can only have the passenger side. But it's pretty easy to put one on the driver's side. The hard part is getting the latch in the proper location. A tape measure works if you now how to use one.:crapstorm:

    Ammo can/s like this.

Edit: Or just get a tool roll and store it underneath or behind your back seat.

Sure is! Stole it from another thread on here, hope ya don’t mind. Seemed like a pretty perfect solution to OP’s question.

I have one of these as well, underneath the tonneau cover, and another one I can put in there for non-everyday stuff like camping gear or metal detecting gear
