Hey everyone, Long Island NY here. Been lurking for a few weeks, finally created an account. Just picked up my first taco. 2005 quad cab, 6spd and 5ft bed. Really wanted the 6ft bed but slim pickings and the 6spd was more important. Anyway new to Toyota. Been a Jeep guy for about 8yrs. So far very happy with the Tacoma. It’s basically going to be my surf / beach truck. I’m a merchant mariner and gone for half the year at sea so I don’t drive much. I bought it about a week before leaving for a month at sea and I’ve been online shopping. Already installed the TRD pro grille with raptor lights and plasti dipped all the chrome emblems. Lookin forward to installing a leveling kit, Stealth Custom Bronze wheels with wild peak tires, Cali raises amber cube led fogs when I get home next week. going to make a quick basic build for now and then eventually go with a king or ion lift with bigger tires, bed racks etc.

Welcome! Would recommend you add a "battery tender," but I'm sure you're very familiar with those devices having gone to sea so often...lol

Thanks. Yeah it’s not an option as I park at our company dock for the time I’m gone. I might install a little switch to disconnect the battery but that’s about all I can do. Haven’t had issues with previous vehicles so I’m hoping I don’t have any issues when I get home. It will be the first time I left her sitting so far.

Welcome...I've had 3 Jeeps over the years. I had fun in all 3. I love my Tacoma, and I'm not afraid of it catching fire.

I used to disconnect the battery when I went on a 6 month deployment (USN). My 94 Hilux started every time.

    thanks

Well I never worried about my Jeep catching fire. I had YJ’s and XJ’s. I was actually going to buy an LJ instead of the taco but a deal fell through before I found this taco. I’ll probably have to get a motorcycle to replace the doorless topless Jeep feel.

    thank you for your service!

Yay....My 88 XJ started smoking under the dash one day. I could never figure out were it came from but it smelt electrical. My friends XJ burnt to the ground. And my 67 CJ5 caught fire under the hood. I was fortunate to have a small extinguisher and a 2 liter of Mountain Dew. My 05 TJ Rubi never had a problem.

That’s crazy. I know the JK’s had a fire issue early on. I told myself a while ago, I’ll never own a Jeep newer than 2006

Thanks for the welcome. Link to west marine didn’t work but I’ll pull some key words from the link and search.
