    I am replacing the valve cover gaskets and spark plug seals on my '04 Tacoma, 3.4L V6. When I removed the intake plenum to access the valve cover bolts, I discovered that both the left and right plastic wire harness protectors/covers, (that house the injector wires, etc.) have deteriorated and are falling apart. Apparently this is from age and engine heat. I tried to be careful moving them away from the covers, but they practically crumbled from just moving them. Has anyone had this same issue? I can't re-use them in current condition. Does anyone know where I can get new ones? If new ones aren't available, is it ok to leave them off? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    That's normal. Nearly all 5vzfe I worked on have the same problem as yours. You'll be ok to leave it as is.

    I tried looking for the hard ridged plastic looms for the injector harnesses and could never find them on any Toyota parts diagram

    Ok, thanks for the info. I guess I’m going to leave them off since there’s no way to reuse them or put them back together.

    I wasn't thinking about using some water heater strap and ducting (not duct tape - the metal stuff) to reinforce the bottom of the plastic and thread the bolts through to the valve covers on mine. Thoughts?

    You can always try and find cut up wire harnesses with them still in good shape

    Common as it seems to be, I would think someone would have come up with an aftermarket or homemade solution/replacement to the harness-cover-tearing-up problem.

    That's where I'm headed with my heater strap idea - considering electrical tape is wrapped around that plastic and it is plastic there can't be too much harm in adding some of this to the bottom of the harness and bridging out to where the harness bolts to the valve covers.

    I might give it a try when I put my engine in. It's thin enough to cut with good tin snips (obviously a dremel / grinder) but strong enough to provide some support if you tape the heck out of it to the harness...

    I like it; reinforce that bad boy. My vision was something more like replacing the plastic with some sort of electrical conduit (from, again, Home Depot/Lowes), but yours looks good, too.

    I see where you're going with that now. I just want the thing to stay in place with minimal effort, but now you got me thinking about cutting off the whole plastic guard and replacing it with conduit... uh oh, the wheels are turning again lol

    Toytec coilovers. Height adjustable Bilstein's. 265/75/16 MT. TRD wheels. Rebuilt r150f. Marlin clutch kit. All kinds of new parts...
    I used some heat shield crap that I had leftover from my Volkswagen. Just to keep the harness from getting baked. Works like a charm and kind of looks cool too.

    Run into the same issue when I replaced my valve cover gaskets. I wish I had know about "Tesa" Tape when I did mine. I purchased a roll of Tesa Wire Loom Harness Tape from Amazon and love it. I'm not sure I'll ever use the sticky electrical tape anymore. It's also great for putting around plastic to reduce rubbing or rattles.
    I even wrapped my push lawn mower handle with it. I had regular electrical tape on it, but when it was hot it would loosen and get sticky.

    The below Tesa Tape is for use in the engine bay.

    No Idea what a King Cab might be . Never imported to the USA??

    I am pretty sure these are discontinued from Toyota Perhaps New Old Stock sitting someplace..Check at all the online vendors.

    Just what is wrong with yours ??

    If this is a project look for the sensors ECM and Engine Harness from a 4Runner so many more around then the early Tacoma`s due to so many now living as appliances .
