I believe that as soon as you connect, you get a screen showing all the ECUs. Click on the Engine ECU and it should show it.

I download flash manager as well as VFTuner. What are major differences in the 87 performance 1.05 tune onaon flashtflash manager and the VFTUNER 2.0 regular thx 33 tunes? Any benefits going backwards to the older revision?

1.05 was good. 2.0 is great. Just stick with 2.0 until the Perf and Tow tunes get released.

Some guy on a FB group said that an after market intake may hinder these tunes. Do you agree / disagree with that? I currently have a KN Blackhawk cold air intake w/ dry filter. Sounds amazing :D and honestly helped with towing prior to tune. At hwy speeds truck would bounce back and forth between 3rd and 4th gear with my travel trailer. Now it holds 4th unless there's a steep grade.

Not undermining anything that Tonered has said cause the man is always spot on with everything, just expanding on it. Although 2.0 is the most refined tune that OV has put out, it isn't necessarily everyone's favorite tune for the basic reason that every truck is built different and every person has their own individual preference and needs. The joy of OV is that over the years he has put out many different betas for us to try so I'd say give 2.0 a little time to settle in then go experiment with a few other tunes to see if they suit you better. It won't hurt anything and won't cost you anything besides time. It'll help you understand what you want out of your truck better. Just make sure you give each version at least a few hundred miles to settle before you come to any conclusions

^correct. There is not one "perfect" tune for everyone.

All these trucks are slightly different and people have different mods and driving styles. There are many different tunes you can try out to find the one thats perfect for you.

One thing to note though, you really should run the tune for 500 miles or so before making any judgments. The first 100 or so is initialization and once you get to 400-500 miles, its settled in.

Theres been issues in the past of people flashing a tune, resetting LV, driving around the block then complaining. Then they switch to another tune and repeat the process. When you do this, its never completed the initialization and learning process so you are never really getting a feel for what that tune actually is.

When I went to premium SFOB 2.0 on my truck, the first 25 miles or so weren't great. Once I got near 100 it really smoothed out. Now I've got quite a few on it and its running great. If I hadn't waited it out, I'd be missing out on this great tune.

When you guys talk about learning and settling in, does the tune always get "better" or does it pick up it's bad habbits from before the tunes were done?

The learning and settling in is setting base parameters within the ecu and then adjusting them

It only picks up good habits. Mat got rid of the bad habits.

If you got it, run it. The stock was a CAI also, like you saw. As long as you're pulling cold air from the fender well, then no worries.

The FB peeps might have been thinking that you were running a cone in the engine bay?

Most certainly. All that I am saying is that I don't feel the need to try 1.05. Certainly try the other 2.0 tunes and see what suits you.

OVT says that it takes about 500mi for the tune to completely settle in. Making judgements before that may not be apples to apples.

When I Google OVTune Dyno results I find the attached photos. (Old 1.05)20200731_093938-COLLAGE.jpg Anybody know how much more the premium tune adds? Are these numbers still relevant or at least close?

I’m not sure that there is current dyno numbers for the 2.0 tunes unless someone has done them independently.

the thing to remember is the tune is focused on drivability, not making big numbers. Power is much more usable with the tune.

I tried telling this to someone who insisted on insulting my intelligence because "everyone knows that tunes are for making power, thinking that a tune is for driving a truck normally is just silly". Lol smh

I totally understand the main reasons for this tune, and IMO it delivered. I'm really just curious if the extra $.70/ gallon is worth doing the premium tune. OVTune unlocked the trucks potential that Toyota underutilized. Im also a firm believer that if you want to offer different trims, make them truly different. The SR5 and SR should have the economy tunes, all the TRD models should have been done like the OVT. Nobody buys a TRD Pro or Off Road because the want 25 mpg. They want the next off road legend. Package it, gear it, and tune it accordingly!

Note that all tunes are Octane Learning. Reg just starts the ignition lower. Prem starts it higher. At one point, OVT said there was a bit more ignition advance in the Prem tunes when running high octane.

In general though, give them a shot. There's no downside to any tune. Hell, I've been back to Stock a couple times. It resets the butt dyno.

Where are the seatbelt shut off options on TS? I generally buckle up, but if on a woods trail they drive me nuts!

If you want to become competent with TS customization, not to be an ass but I suggest digging into the features yourself and finding them. Otherwise you'll be asking people how to do simple customizations every single time you want to do something, when you could have learned yourself how to be self sufficient and find the answers you're looking for on your own, better enabling you to return to the program at a later date for other tweaks that you may wish to do.

@tonered held your hand a significant chunk of the way through installing the program and I get it. It can be intimidating. But with the ability to Google what you're trying to do and the resources available to you, even if you just go into the program and poke around until you find what you're looking for...well I suggest you try it. Plus, and this is from personal experience with both trying new things myself and training people at work, you're more likely to remember it if you do it yourself.

If you cannot find it after at least trying, I'm sure many people will happily accommodate you and help out.

Personally, I've found that my transmission goes back to some not so great habits after 5,000 miles or so. It's like the transmission starts to think too much and can't make up its mind. So it hesitates before shifting, then shifts really hard to compensate for how much time it took. When that happens, I like to either try a new tune or reset my transmission and learning values.

Again, this is my personal experience , and there may not be anyone else who thinks their truck performs this way. It's like each individual 3rd Gen Tacoma has its own personality.
