We've had a rough time with pets this year. We have always had a Beta fish in a bowl on our kitchen table. I keeled over. Oh well just a fish but the kids would talk to it when they ate breakfast. The fish would actually respond. I know, crazy shit and this is a dog thread. February of this year, our female Schnauzer developed diabetes(she is 10 years old). She has only had dog food her entire life and was not over weight. We have been dealing w/ giving her shots twice a day since then. About a month ago I posted that we had to put our male Schnauzer down due to complications to SARDS(also 10 years old, siblings). Now my wife noticed that our female is having trouble seeing. The problem seems to come and go. The vet says it is probably caused from the diabetes. Of course they want us to go to a dog ophthalmologist. There is one about 100 miles from us but they are expensive. Basically $1000 to walk in the door and have a couple of test. No guarantee with anything other than them telling us, "Yep she's going blind". We love having pets, but we will not left them suffer. The vet also said that typically after a dog with diabetes goes blind, the end is near. I sure would hate to have to put another one down in this short period of time. Thanks for listening.

Typically, dogs that are going blind and have diabetes, diabetes is the cause. Usually indicated by the cloudy eyes. I don't know that it's the end but you're right, I wouldn't want Riley to suffer because of that.

I've posted a few things about Diabetes since Riley was diagnosed back in June if you're interested. The biggest being $25 insulin from Walmart. It's called Novolin N "Relion". You may need/want to repeat any GCs you've done as this is a slower metabolizing insulin.

So, I went to kill my dog today because she is annoying....then my friend ruins it and sends me a video of her potential. She gets to live one more day :D

Little turd is getting big really REALLY quickly. She is stubborn as hell, but she does pick up things just as quickly as day one.

Thoughts on E-Collars? I have yet to see a well disciplined malinois that has not had one at some point or currently.

Still happy with her, but I am TIRED!!! Oh, and my hands and lower for arms are trashed from her teeth lol

Thanks, I'll pass this info on to the wife. That dog is spoiled rotten for her so she does most of the shots and vet visits. I'm not sure what insulin we us on Lexi but we are spending about $60 a month on between the insulin, syringes, & test strips. We had to change her food to a low carb version too.
