The 12-year-old 43” Sanyo that was a Black Friday special at Walmart crapped out tonight. Color is all washed out. Not worth my time or money to fix.

Plan to replace with a 50-55” model. Tell me which to buy and make a convincing argument.

I don’t see the need to spend over $500. Is QLED that great? The only really important thing is that it’s a smart TV so I can give up the Fire Stick and its separate remote.

Seems like I can get a pretty good TV for around $300.

https://www.rtings.com is a great site to help guide you. How far away are you sitting from the tv? depends on what size you should get. It's honestly not the greatest time to get a new tv. Bc of corona a lot of the companies tried to catch up their inventory in stores. Bc of that the QC isn't great on the tvs. if you do get one I suggest getting the extended warranty. I hear good things about the Vizio M series. but I would def get the extended warranty on it.

I'd stay away from off brands like TCL and Hisense.

Oh I definitely won’t go for the low end brands. I’m thinking Visio, LG,
    Samsung, etc.

My quandary isn’t the brand it’s the “options” if you will, the specs that I have no experience with because I’ve had the same TV since the Stone Age.

We’re oh about 10-12 feet from the TV.

I hate to expose my ignorance, but, are you telling me to buy a black and white TV?

Despite the lack of manners in the original post, I'll help anyways.

    $349 for a 50 inch: https://www.costco.com/samsung-50"-class-- tu700d-series---4k-uhd-led-lcd-tv.product.100649167.html

    $399 for a 55 inch: https://www.costco.com/samsung-55"-class---tu700d-series---4k-uhd-led-lcd-tv.product.100649148.html

Buying a tv from Costco gets you extra warranty and if you use their credit you get 4% total back with executive membership.

You don't need any of the QLED stuff because lets be honest, most of us can't tell the difference.

I’ll reveal my manners as I thank you graciously for the advice. I must remember, as always, that the typed word often doesn’t convey the same light, fun tone that the author may intend unless explicitly delivered.

Unfortunately the nearest Costco is 2 hours away. My nearby brick and motor options are Best Buy, Walmart, a shady looking electronics store, and the base exchange.

That’s what I needed to hear on QLED — not necessary. Now I just need to decide between 50 and 55 inches.

    Again, much thanks.

Go to best buy and start filtering. You will find a winner.

That’s what prompted the thread, there were multiple options that I’m too ignorant to know if they were must have, nice to have, or useless. Resolution, display type, refresh rate, etc.

I see, try to find a Samsung one that is last years model. Those are usually pretty cheap as the stores try to get rid of them to make room for the new ones. At bestbuy around me, they had a 58 Inch smart 4k for $349. Sold out now though.

Honestly the cheaper Samsung’s and LGs are crap. They have bad motion blur, ghosting and color bleed. For a good one from them it’s About 800 or more. And at a distance of 10-12 feet away it’s recommended to have a 65 inch tv. But you’re coming from a 43 so a 55 will probably do fine for the situation. As i said before if I was going to be buying a tv for my main viewing and i wanted to stay under 500 the m series is the best option at that price point. And everything really depends on what you want to use the tv for, watching tv, sports, movies, gaming all matters some TVs are better than others for each purpose. And some are jack of all trades. Here’s the m series again. Just realize I posted last years model on the other comment

I'm not sure if you have it where you are, but where I am, if you buy a tv that has the ENERGY STAR symbol on it that is over 49", you get a $150 rebate towards your electric bill. I would google your electric company name and then type "energy star rebate" after it to see if your place offers the same thing.

I checked, unfortunately our energy provider only gives rebates for HVAC units and heat pumps.
