    Hey guys,

so I have been looking at buying a new Tacoma and I wanted to swap my current cement scooped hood (swapped it with another member) to a new cement offroad and the dealer said they wouldn’t do it because they won’t swap structural parts.

Is this a common practice? I would have thought the dealer would rather have a stock Tacoma on the lot rather than one with aftermarket parts.

Isn't there a VIN sticker on the hood? If so, I think the dealership would have some explaining to do selling a new Tacoma with a hood that has a mismatched VIN sticker.

    It's a secret
Service dept. of that particular dealerahip likely just don't want to bump queue of shop work and eat cost of involved labor costs.

So. The hood isn’t bad. Even with one person.

I’ve been to multiple dealers looking for a tundra stating I would buy a platinum if they will take the sport hood off one on the lot and put it on mine. Zero issues at any dealer I’ve asked.

yes the issue is not the work required it’s the swapping of a structural part

Maybe you missed the part where it says the Toyota dealer here Will swap what they call structural parts that aren’t really structural parts.

So you have a hood on your 18 and you are looking at buying a 20 and want to swap hoods from the 18 to the 20 you are buying correct?

He means the one they're selling you. If they do what you're wanting they'd be selling a brand new vehicle that suddenly has mismatched structural parts (read: parts that matter in collisions) of unknown origin.

I'd guess this is probably different than the Tundra example given in this thread where they're swapping one new hood for another new hood; they know the history of each hood.

Based of the lack of info in your original post, I can only assume you want to swap your current hooded scoop to the new OR and trade in your current OR with the hood from the new OR.
I don’t think a lot of dealers like changing parts prior to a sale like that. Unless you’re willing to pay them in their service dept to do it.

Okay, I didn’t think there was a lot of info required

I have a 18 OR with scooped hood
I am buying a 20 OR with flat hood
I want to swap my current scooped hood with the new flat hood.

If you look at your original post, it looks like your trying to buy a new OR and swap your hooded scoop to it. No where do you state if you are looking to trade in your current OR or keep it. So basically the advice you are asking TW for could be different based on if you are looking to trade in or just have them make a switch for you and be keeping both trucks.
Your obviously being a D-bag since you don’t like hearing the responses you’re getting.

most dealers don’t want to deal with that, I think part of the reason is. What if your current hood is ducked up and then you comeback later for repair (not saying it is but in there eyes.) and various other reasons. Along with the hour of labor it will take to swap it.

if you are really keen on keeping the hood, id walk on the deal and find another dealer who will work with you. I swapped some components on my Tacoma when I traded it in earlier in the year. You walking away may even make them do it for you.
