SC w/urd pulley, afe cai, URD LT's, TRD cat back. 375hp. Custom logos, tonneau cover, westin bar with piaa lights, aero force gauges, custom front air dam, Westin step bars.
So a month ago while dragging a 5500lb trailer with my 2015 TRD pro and SC I was forced to follow a truck up a hill at just 25mph at 108 degrees for 10 miles the tstat showed 225 degrees and the trans at 253 degrees.

I decided to put a new cws radiator on it and then an aftermarket trans super cooler. Before the new trans cooler the trans showed 10 degrees warmer then it usually ran. After installing the new trans cooler it ran 10-15 degrees cooler where I live at 6500' elevation and I had it to the local Toyota dealer to do a fresh trans flush and fill.

Today when going down to Phx at 110 degrees with no trailer the trans is back running 10-15 degrees hotter then it did before the aftermarket trans cooler, topping out at 225 degrees empty (never got over 205 degrees empty previously).

I ran the line from the radiator on the drivers side to the far side of the new trans cooler and coming out to the top of the small oem trans cooler, using both coolers as well as the one going through the new radiator. (Aftermarket cooler is mounted with inlet and outlet pointed up).

So...should I try eliminating the cooler in the radiator? The small oem cooler? Eliminate Both and just use the aftermarket cooler? I've got to run that trailer down to Phx this coming week in 115 degrees and I'm not liking what's going on with it empty. Ideas?

My first concern would be if the dealer did the refill right.

I was wondering the same thing. If they flushed it did they reconnect the hoses properly. I'm thinking they did not.

I kinda thought they did a standard pan drain and refilled with 3 qts. And called it done.

I don't think they do anything with the hoses going to the cooler. I think it's all done at the bottom of the trans and I asked them if it's done with a certain oem amount or until the unit shows full. I was told the machine removes all existing fluid and can tell when the system is completely full which should take into acccount the additional fluid needed for the new cooler as well.

I'm going to have a friend that ran a trans shop come by and take a look and get his opinion as well. Thanks!

What order do you have the coolers installed?

Factory line to radiator from trans. Out of radiator to inlet on top of new aftermarket cooler. Out of outlet on top of new cooler to top inlet of small factory cooler. Out of outlet on bottom of small factory cooler back to trans.

Some coolers are sensitive to orientation. I’d try it without the factory cooler and see if that helps.

I’m thinking I may try bypassing the small factory cooler as phase one and depending on what that does maybe bypassing the cooler in the radiator as well.

And it's very easy to check this yourself with nothing more than a paper clip and instructions found on this forum.

Yep, just check fluid level before removing stuff, that’s the easiest and most logical thing to do.

I bypassed the factory cooler and just used the new bigger cooler and although it doesn’t seem to necessarily run cooler it does recover quicker for sure.
