Any one here know of a shop around Bozeman that would do a CMC? Looking to do it this fall. Thanks!

I haven't been in there before but drive by it every day, I'll check it out! Have you had work done by them before?

Not automotive. Had him fabricate a few things when I ran a firearms manufacturing shop when I lived in Bozeman. But I will make the drive to have him do work for me. Go to his website and check out the Chenoweth LSV he has photos of. I was there when it was brought into the shop as a bare rusted frame only. The pics he posted of the finished product can give you a good idea of his work.

Anyone have any suggestions on a good spot to go shooting near Bozeman? i'd imagine that there's some good spots around here but i'm new to the area so i've got no idea as to where they'd be.

Unfortunately close by, going be hard since there are so many hiking trails and camp sites with too many people around, hence shooting is prohibited unless you driver very far in off the roads. I ended up having to just get a membership at Logan Range when the restrictions got too much to deal with to go to Hyalite Canyon, before I moved last year.

Other option is know someone with large amount of property.

shoot! that's too bad. Suppose that comes with the territory of being in one of the most populous areas of the state. I'll look into a range membership, but it also may be worth noting that i don't mind driving a ways.

My mistake, I thought you had to go further in. You can still shoot in Hyalite, but you have to be 1/2 mile away from the roads. And as always safety.

Building off of razhick4x4's question, are there any outdoor ranges around butte or surrounding areas? I'm used to having to drive a ways to go shooting, but I was spoiled with a neighbors property back in California. It seems like most people around here just find a spot in the forest somewhere. The only one I've been able to find is the local gun club, but I'd much rather just go to a regular range. I've seen people shooting near mile marker 119 on I15 off the frontage road into a big ditch there, but I'm pretty sure that's not legal. I've also seen people shooting out by the dump near wisdom right next to 43. Also not too sure about that, but there were permanent looking target stands there. Even if you know a spot on forest or BLM land that'd be nice to hear.

Also, anyone have any fishing spot recommendations? I've been on 1 spot on the big hole, on the unmarked turnoff that goes right down to the water a few miles after pump house on 43. I've also heard good things about Ferguson lake, but I'd like to hear some nice spots. I get it if you dont want to post it publically, but if you could PM that'd be great!

Fishing depends on what you want to do. Creeks, rivers (small water or big water), lakes, fishing from shore, by boat, or wading, etc.
Not sure about lakes and never tried boating in MT.
Wading in the rivers and streams up there has not disappointed me. Well, maybe disappointed that one time in a snow storm when eyelets on the rod kept freezing and waders froze stiff as soon as i left the water but I still caught fish.

Alright folks. I’m headed to GF for the day from billings. Taking my wife and kids to Black Bear Diner. Wife hasn’t been to one in a few years and it was our go to joint back home. Anyway I was wondering if there were any spots y’all would recommend stopping and checking out on the way back. Even if it’s a little out of our way. I’m down to do a little off roading to a view or to a river or lake, nothing too technical cause It’ll be a family trip. Any Recs would be greatly appreciated.

I'm just looking to hang out on the shore of a lake, creek, or river to kill some time with the chance of catching something. I'm really new to fishing, so I just want to get out and get some good practice. I still manage to botch about 1 in 5 casts, so I'm still getting used to it. Im a long way off from wading, boats, and more experienced techniques.

I never got all the way up to Butte. Been around south and east of it a bit.
Hell's Canyon near Silverstar isn't far southeast from Butte. It has a few public spots with picnic tables on the side of Jefferson river. Also a lot of spaces marked as private property too though. If you go further south toward Twin Bridges you can see the Beaverhead.

On the other side of the mountain, southwest of Butte, the ride along 43 on the Big Hole was pretty when I was there a few years ago but I didn't fish there much. Saw a number of public access spots though.

Just ride around MT and hit up some of the public access spots. There's plenty of them. More than TN has for sure. From what I've seen, most of the public access areas can be fished from shore. Not always well, but doable.

I've driven 43 a few times now, such a great drive. Yeah, I figured I'd just hit up a lot of the public access spots. I've seen a ton of them just driving around, but I only picked up the book of them a few days ago from the forest service office. I suppose I should work my way around them.

too many campers and hikers in the close to town areas. most places got closed because no one picks up there shit.
there is this site just off of 191, about 2 miles south of the Red Cliff Campground. usually a vehicle or two in there.

Kinda a boring drive between here and Billings. The only thing I would say is check out Monarch or the hills by Neihart. Its about an hour from GF
