Wouldn't getting tighter be a bad thing? Eventually, the valve gets to a point it allows a little a/f to escape during compression, and creates a hot spot on the edge of the valve, and voila, soon a burnt valve.

Yes, they get tighter as they wear. When you are checking the valves, you are looking for the ones that are tighter than the spec. You have to get new valves shims to make those tight valves loose again.

The overhead cam engines from Toyota run shim under bucket, much the same as most newer Japanese motorcycle engines do. As the valve seats were, they cause the valves to get tighter. On this kind of engine, noisy valves are usually a good thing unless they are too loose.

No shit. The monsoons Tucson is supposedly famous for haven't shown up since I moved here.

All these ones are shim over bucket but yeah the sentiment is the same. There are shim under bucket conversions for people who want to make a higher revving yota with heavier valve springs.

Does Tucson get them too? I always thought being at some elevation stopped it. I remember driving back from Tucson to Phoenix while PHX was having a monsoon and out of nowhere I was in crazy weather, about the time I reached Florence. I thought the Haboobs and monsoons were neat, almost lost the cruiser to one though.

Thanks for the correction. I couldn't remember if they were over or under so just went under. But yeah, like you said, it works the same either way and the valves tighten as the seats wear.

Tucson gets the monsoons but not the haboobs. Maybe no haboobs is because of the elevation? I dunno.

His other one; his flares are faded as badly as mine and I don't want to invest the time and energy (in this heat) to paint them.

Been working; I get home when half you guys are asleep :luvya:

No but really I need to tag the CA members that will be going, and settle on a date based on their schedule.

Bit of a long drive for us.

I'll post on Tuesday, my next day off.
