With the current shortage of Tacoma's (read the Carvana thread, paying premium prices for used Tacoma's) and in some places ridiculous "local market value" mark ups on new (someone posted one for $4000), I can see the dealer not giving a shit if the OP walks on this deal. It'll sell next week.

Lets just be clear here, I don’t feel entitled. I was asking if this is a common thing. I didn’t think it’d be a huge deal since you’re swapping aftermarket for OEM. Vin numbers on my current hood don’t match anyhow since it’s from a 2020 sport. I didn’t think it was something that would scream “entitlement”, just a curious person who has never traded in (and never planned to) at a dealer.

If that is whining ^ then either you’re new here or you don’t come over to the 3rd gen side very often

I mean they also have the option to deduct the price of the hood from the trade-in, if you sell them a truck minus the hood.

Have you tried to see how much Carvana will pay you for your current truck? Example: Lock in deal with Carvana, buy new truck, swap hoods, deliver old truck to carvana. Your old truck is an OR so its't not suppose to have a scooped hood anyway.

A dealership is not obligated to do anything for you. "We reserve the right..." and all that.

Hit the sidewalk and find a place that will do the work. There are lots of businesses and folks who would love to make a little money working on your stuff. Simple.

Well you possess a superpower that I wish I had since apparently you can see entitlement.

So you’re saying, next time rather than asking if swapping my hood is possible, I should just bend over and let the dealer do whatever he wishes to my behind?

The work I referred to is the "swap mods" in your thread title and "to swap my current cement scooped hood" in your original post.

Another idea would be to find someone in your town that will let you have their hood with the promise of a new hood (possibly also with something to make it worth their while). Then swap hoods, trade in truck, get new truck swap hoods and then give local pal the new hood.

What does the 20 OR have that your 18 OR does not have?

Do they have a 20 Pro on the lot? That would be the best truck to buy if they have one.

Doesn't hurt to ask. Just trying to think creatively, would be better if it was a friend that already knows you. Or you might make a new taco buddy. I think the Carvana deal might be good because they are paying so much right now for used tacos. Just for S's and giggles I put in my SR that I bought in March, they bid almost 3 K over what I bought it for. Anyway, maybe these ideas will spark you or someone else to come up with a solution. Hope it works out, those scooped hoods are pretty cool imho.

I didn't read anything after the 1st page.

It looks like if you want to use your current scooped hood on you future truck you will have to do the following.

1 - Buy a non scooped hood somewhere.
2 - Have non scooped hood installed on your current truck.
3 - Trade your Taco in for new truck.
4 - Have scooped hood installed on new truck.
5 - Sell new truck's non scooped hood.

Seems the OP could have saved himself a lot of trouble, if he would have kept his original equipment for switching back to stock later.

I have kept all my original parts when upgrading, just so I can return to stock when the time comes to sell.

I’d try something like that. If you don’t need the trade in at dealer to make the deal. Just sell your current truck separately after swapping the hoods.

Yeah but then he couldn’t do the dealer a favor by letting them swap the hoods for him for their benefit.

Sure, I'd let them knock a couple hundred off for a used hood I want to keep, still better option than just letting them keep something off the truck that I want to keep.
