I am considering buying this truck (110,000 miles). What am I looking for to verify it is a TRD version? The specs (5TEUU42N98Z487507) don't mention anything about TRD, which is why I am inquiring...

    Thanks

    Asterny,
Attached find brochure for 2008 4x4 Tacoma. A review appears previous owner or dealer may have deleted most info from the Toyota Owners website. Date of first use appears to have been reset - apparently indicating over 12 years ago? Not to worry, also looks like the truck may be eligible for the rear spring TechServiceBulletin, T-SB-0359-10 Rear Spring Harsh Ride, you might check with any dealer. Be sure to double check the condition of the frame. Not sure what part of the country you're in, but frame condition would be highest concern. Look for rust from inside out - any rust holes larger than a nickel would be a deal breaker. Vehicle should have plugs in most frame manufacturing holes. However, great TRUCK - best luck with the purchase.

Scoop is present, color matched grill surround, Sport decal, just verify the blue / yellow Bilstein shocks and that the back bumper is color matched and I’d say it’s a good chance it’s a real TRD Sport.

no, could just tell BI by the trees and given the uncertainty with running the VIN I would be wary, considering how much shady shit goes on around here. Thanks

    asterny [OP],

More photos would help confirm if a real TRD, from rear quarter, tailgate, interior, a couple of front seats, etc.
As far as deleting Toyota Owners website information, it appears should anyone know a valid VIN and elect to view the info, thus creating the vehicle as their own (or duplicate), one could then delete the entry and most of the vehicle specific information IMO. The website gives an owner (i.e. person logged-in) the option to delete a vehicle in response to a sale, transfer of ownership, or for whatever reason.
