I’ve always been a small/mid size truck guy. I haven’t liked any Chevy since my S-10s, Ford wasn’t offering a Ranger until recently and for me a 4 cyl. Auto is not an option, I hate automatics. So Tacoma V6 6MT is about perfect.

I bought my 2017 SR because it was the only new,4 cylinder, manual transmission, 4X4 truck available. As an added bonus, it was also the least expensive 4X4 pickup truck available; yes, it truly was. Plus, I really liked how it drove.

I was only looking for a tacoma when I bought a truck. It wasnt my daily driver when I bought it but definitely wanted the reliability of a Toyota. I have had other Toyotas years ago that reached 300k miles, been in toyotas that reached 400k miles. Overall I like that fact that they build a great quality product to be long lasting for many years or decades. I still drive my 95 Tacoma to work once or twice a week, round trip about 60 miles a day with no problems. Looking to get a new tacoma now as a daily driver.

Only new truck you can find with a manual transmission. Plus great reliability and resale value.

I went from a 4 cylinder Ford escape 2010 and at 80k miles.the engine was getting weak, spotted a 2010 certified used Toyota tacoma trd sport access cab and fell in love.
It was a contractors truck he had traded in.
I traded it in when I had to go with a bigger truck so leased a 2016 tundra then went to a 2019 tundra leased after the 2016 lease was up. When I traded in the tacoma it had 80k miles on it and got 16k for the trade in value. From what my friends say for their American made mid size vs what i got their jaws dropped.
When the current tundra lease.is up I am going back to a tacoma as no longer need a full size truck.

The tacoma and tundra trucks have never failed me in any way and always get me where I need to go.

I live in New England and in my town I am a vol. Fire police for my town and respond to calls in weather others wouldn't even consider.
Toyota trucks are always there and keep me safe and get me there and home safe.
I have never had a more reliable vehicle in my life.
They hold value, are durable and reliable. They are easy to make one their own with aftermarket support for modifications and I never fear whenever I get behind the wheel.

As a volunteer fire police as well as having to drive.jn bad scarey at times weather also having to use my truck to block off roads. I never worry about my safety or if it will get me home.

Plus I think the question isn't what you can do with or to a tacoma I think the question is what can't you do if properly equipped.

Also I remember reading how in I believe it was the California wild fires how one guy used his tacoma to get people to safety and even though the truck I think at one-point got heavily damaged from fire.and other things it still ran and drove.so they all were safe out of harms way.
When Toyora heard about what he did they wanted to see the truck and for his bravery and care to help get people to safety at his own risk. He was a civilian and Toyota gave him a brand new tacoma.

I honestly do not know of any other manufacturers that would do that.

Toyota quality, reliability, take a beating and keep on ticking and always get us home.

I like the size. I have three other full sized trucks already.
Also because of it's assumed and proven reliability. I like that there's so much aftermarket support for it also.
    I find it comfortable.

For what I'm doing with it, it's ok.

I’m not sure if it’s just me but this is by far the best looking Toyota truck I’ve ever seen! Every time I see this truck from back to the future, I just drool. Not a single 1st 2nd or 3rd gen modded however which way compares to this bad ass truck from that movie. :crapstorm: Again maybe it’s just me but I might be biased because my first truck was a 1986 Toyota truck with the legendary 22r engine but obviously didn’t look like the movie truck lol.

I am happily impressed by all the Manual Transmission comments!

I am in the land of OZ where old minis & Mokes (I am a fan) still roam free... Any car from pretty much any manufacturer is readily available here... including all types of 4x4s - Land Cruisers, Patrols, etc... you can even get a Lada Niva - should you want to mimic the reliability of a Ram, ford, or GM truck... (I joke - but you know it is true!). - I would not even consider any of these manufacturers.

I am here expecting to get a Tacoma upon my arrival in the USA... If it were not for the manual transmission I would not be here, or considering the Tacoma...

This will be my first truck having always stayed mostly on roads with my own vehicles... (BMW, VW, Volvo, Fiat). Said that... I've gone half way around Australia all off road (several trips), and cruised Baja multiple times also off road on vehicles that have been built, or modified for the purpose... Proper off road-ers are indeed appealing. We have a Series 100 Land Cruiser that has served us very well!

The Tacoma will be my last ICE vehicle so it must be a manual - and it needs to be reliable and last us a long time. Our second car and any future ones will all be electric beyond that... And those do no need a transmission.

I know the Tacoma is not a Land Cruiser, but I believe that the Tacoma is the right tool for the job now that the boys are older and we will be doing lots of trips to the mountains, camping and Mountain biking. No rock crawling for us... but a proper 4x4 will be appreciated for future trips to Baja, to the desert, and for trips to the mountains in winter.

I am counting on the Reliability, of course. I am counting on the quality... I am counting on the utility of the Tacoma. This and maybe a small off-road trailer should fit the Bill...

BMW, Mercedes used to have a quality reputation - but now it gone...

i live in a town that borders mexico in texas, and i commute to mexico constantly because of family. given the situation in mexico large 4 door pick ups are somewhat targeted by cartels so a small, nimble, inconspicuous, and RELIABLE pick up was always a priority. that plus the fact that i do use the bed a lot, tow small things occasionally and enjoy offroading. the tacoma was an easy choice for me. also everyone in my family is a toyota fan boy/girl

Oh you think it’s a smartass answer? That’s valid but it’s an honest answer. My x wife never wanted a Tacoma not really sure why she just didn’t like the truck so after the divorce was finally over first thing I did was buy my truck. I wanted one anyway and keep it cause I love it but at the time, yeah vengeance. Petty I know but it did make me feel a hell of a lot better.

First truck I ever bought was an 88 Toyota 4x4. $13k brand new off the lot. I drove that truck into the ground. What a great truck with some good memories.

    1. Cheaper than a 4Runner
    2. Capable off-road and can take a beating
    3. Wanted a bed for the shed monster puppy and random home/work projects without the limitations of full-size
    4. Last toyota product (t4r) worked flawlessly past 280,000 miles until my gf drove it into a wall (black ice) Also walked away from the accident with little more than a sore neck.
    5. Decent aftermarket for mods like lift/tires
    6. I live in Colorado and it’s pretty much the law that you have a taco in the driveway

I echo many of the comments above. I'm going to try a different angle. The Tacoma is a great swiss army knife of functionality. I particularly like the TRD offroad for it's plush suspension that works well off road but also onroad on rutted and potholed streets. It's also smooth, quiet and refined for stop and go traffic, like the way the bulk of car buyers use their car.

Sounds like you're hired by Toyota marketing so take back this anecdote. As many noted, we bought into a midsized truck because a fullsize truck is too big or don't fit in parking spots in the city. As such I don't buy cars by the inch or the pound. I'm going to be the minority here, but if there was a Tacoma Platinum or 1794 edition with more features/comfort/capability - some truly differentiated upgrades. I'd happily pay significantly more, like $60k for one.

You aren’t kidding. The 86 I had was amazing. Couldn’t get out of its own shadow but talk about reliable. I’m willing to bet that it’s one of the best 4 cylinders ever created across any brand for its time. That 22r was legendary.

This is the second Tacoma we have had, the first was a Black 2010 Double Cab (The wife still misses that truck). But I traded that in for a 2013 FJ Cruiser, it was a Trail Team Cement color, I loved that thing. But we bought a farm and hauling hay with the FJ was not fun. So I found this truck with only 2000 miles on it and trades the FJ off. We don’t have the farm anymore, but truck has survived and I love all the modes I’ve done.
