Oh absolutely! I've done it in my driveway before i go out if I haven't played with it in awhile and I have a feeling I'm gonna need it. Pretty much any snow wheeling it is gonna be used.

Keep in mind it takes about 100 pounds to get it to catch, so when you go from raise to lower or vice versa, you need to raise it, lock it and use the handle to raise. Vice versa when lowering. Also never lean over the handle. Ever. It can and will slip and seriously mess you up ( widow maker)

Edit: sorry for the dump but it is really something that has to be emphasized. Went with a guy who almost ate a hi lift with the entire weight of an over loaded Tacoma

I edited and added a link for hi lifts and other forms of lifting. Farm jacks have been around for a century and are incredibly useful. Only minor changes have been made since mostly it being a double lock pin that walks up the jack.

when at all possible, use the floor jack.

For the most part, a hi-lift is a trail only tool when there are no other ways to lift the truck. It does have many other uses than lifting the truck though.

that being said, it won’t hurt to practice using it on a flat surface in your driveway to get a feel for it. When you need it on the trail you will probably be pissed because you broke something.

It's pretty neat that you can use it as a last ditch recovery tool. Watching Ronnie Dahl use his right now.
