I buy a years pass. Gets you into a bunch of other state parks and reduced rates for other things. I guess its all relative though.

They are like hills compared to the rocky mountains. They are beautiful though, looking forward to exploring them more.

But hiking them isn't a 2% grade like the Rockies it's more like a 30%

Is that the $90 annual pass that’s listed on their website or a different pass?

The big ones in CO and Southern WY:anonymous: The alt. gain over a given distance is more gentle there than it is in the Appalachians.

I will have to get some recommendations for spots to check out. We are just getting settled now, but once the temps start to drop we will be exploring!

Hey I'm out of Raleigh and I have been perusing the trail maps etc. I am familiar with URE and I used to live in CB for Ft. Fisher and Freeman Park were essentials I used to live down there before they made everyone pay to play. Are there other trails throughout the state to wheel on? I have been searching and am having trouble finding other stuff, even unofficial ones. TIA!

URE is about as good as it’s gonna get for you, unless you head west to the mountains. Even then those are more overlandy type “trails”. Nothing real technical.

URE is the only offroad park in the state, aside from the ORV beaches buts that's not really an offroad park. Power line cuts are not legal, regardless of how many people "haven't been caught running it", and then there is the unmaintained and sometimes private roads that people have found.

Gulches, Windrock Park, Adventure Offroad Park, Gold rush or something like that jeep park, Rousch Creek, anthracite something or other park, choccolocco mtn, dirty turtle, Morris mountain, etc, are just some on this side that may or may not still be open.
