Bilstein 6112

Asked Bilstein a bunch of questions pertaining to the 6112 specifically. Pretty disappointed with their response to only half the things I asked. Why would they want to steer me away from the 6112? Because they don’t have it in stock? Lol I’m positive the 6112’s can support extra weight with the 650 springs as others have said/used. Was hoping for a more detailed response

 

if you are sending your question to Bilsteinlifts, then you are not talking to Bilstein. Bilstein lifts is an aftermarket retailer of Bilstein but not affiliated with Bilstein. Without knowing your setup, I can’t say if they are giving you good advice but:

The Bilstein 650 are marketed for 80-140 lbs extra weight. Don’t know what weight you were asking but a full steel bumper and sliders will put you over that limit and hence they may be directing you to the OME based on Bilstein advertised weight guidelines.

Doesn’t mean you can’t run the 650, you will get less lift than the a stiffer spring and may want to set to a higher notch to compensate. Ride quality may also suffer since the suspension frequency response may no longer match the damping curve. That is the theory, I’ve got over 200 lbs extra weight in front and a pair of 650 springs waiting in the closet so no first hand experience yet.

I told them my full setup and asked alot of detailed questions and this explains why i got such a general response. I dont have full bumper skids etc though. Just Low pro bumper thats what 75lbs and eventually a winch. So it falls in line with the 650s for sure. But now that i know they are just a retailer i can understand why thats the response i got.

 

I have a 2013 dclb with 650lb bilstein springs on the 4th notch. I have a full skid plate trio, front bumper and sliders. Does just fine.

 

6112s finally on. Set to the 6/5 setting. 5100s in the rear with an AAL

 

I have my in the same setting 6/6. It was stiff at first but after it 2 week its felt a lot better. Also after week the height drop about an 1in lower. Mine have about an 1.5 inch bro lean. Front higher then rear.

 

what size are those tires? I’m looking to upgrade my tires to some 285/75/16 on stock rims as well whenever my stock tires wear down.

my posts of my lift are #3482 and #3491 from what I know.

 

They are 265/75/r16. Maybe the size I stick with I'm not sure yet. one of the guys we were modding with yesterday had 285/75/r16 on stock wheels. They were Falken Wildpeak M/T which are only 11.2" in width compared to 11.5" for most other tires in that size. He's making it work. I will probably stay in the same size tire range when I go to new wheels with more negative offset to achieve a better stance.

 

Not really anymore. Driver side lean is normal on 3rd gen tacoma. And yes I have leaf fully modded one too. New setup is 650lb front coilwith 6112 notched 6/6 and 1/4” top spacer ondriver side and archive garage hammer hangers with emu el096r leaf 600lb load

Cash, how are you sure it wasn’t the bushings? I just recently went thru the experience of replacing the bushings on a set of 5100’s. I had a clunk over bumps and a metal on metal sound when compressing the front suspension when driving into steep dips at an angle. I let it go for about a year and used to cringe at the rattling on bumpy roads.
The job wasn’t hard at all with a few easy to find tools and the parts were really inexpensive thru Wheelers Offroad. The bushings are TrailGear branded and i think we’re less than $20. Suspension rides like new again and feels firm. SO glad i did this! Hit me up if you need some guidance. I meant to take pics while i was doing the job, but i get too single focused when doing work like this.

 

Did the bushings push in and out easily?

I need to change the bushings on my 6112s.

 

Just wanted to pass along some feedback. I took my 2019 OR out on the beach this weekend for the first time since installing 6112s and 5100s. The improvement over stock is great. On the stock setup when going over some of the deeper washboard the truck would bounce like a pogo stick until you pretty much stop and let it finish. With the 6112s the truck recovers nicely after the initial downward movement. Handling on pavement is much better with less nose dive when stopping and cornering feels much more stable at speed. Definitely satisfied with this upgrade.

 

Just tossing this in here to ask since most pair the 6112 with 5160.. I have the 6112's and going to install next weekend.

But is this the right washer order for the 5160?

 

It was the bottom washers from the energy suspension radiator support bushings, they were clanking against the frame. I put smaller washers on it and the noise has stopped.
