You don't need to sand it AT all. And I would just use Plastidip. I did mine back in the day and it came out very nice.

 

How did the plastidip hold up being on the grill?
i really like my 2020 grill but i hate that is grey not black. I've been debating using some rattle can bedliner on it and clearing it to give it a black look.

 

That's because of two things. One, you're Billy Badass and two, your a HillBilly. I'm just gonna start calling you HillBillyBadAss Dave!

 

After like two years (and two winters) I had a couple pin holes I hit with a black permanent marker to hide them. Otherwise it was perfect. I did like 5 (or 7) thin coats of black and then 4 coats of Glossifier (yes, that a Plastidip thing)

And that definitely made it more black. It also makes it less likely to be easily damaged.

What I did too!

 

Besides the silicone globs, I also squeezed some into the threaded holes. I wanted to be sure sure.

I recently saw them for $100 used. I'll look for them. 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen are the same as long as the cab size is the same. Meaning, Double Cab, Access Cab & Single Cab.

It comes with a footprint, heavier stakes, and a water resistant carry bag. Same price I paid for my orange one. The green one is a better deal. As long as the tent actually is in good shape I'll trade you my orange for the green. Mines never been used either. LOL
