I put those same tires on a set of TRD Pro wheels...I'm really please with that size. I just didn't want to deal with the hassles of 285's and although some people have no hassles, I just know I would. I'll run these until their bald and think about what to do next time.

How do you like the Fox 2 0? You did just the front? What setting? Did you add a leaf in back to level it? How do they feel?

Just search “Toyota doo-hicky” on Amazon.

I went “skinny” with 255/80r17s. Not sure why everyone calls them pizza cutters, they’re 1/2” narrower than stock. I’ve been very pleased with them both on road and off.

Looking to go this route myself- What brand tires are those?

Same here. Not willing to do a chop, and was confident this combo would not be an issue.

Some people seem to have all the luck. Unfortunately, sometimes it turns out to be BAD luck.

Yup, my 255/80/17's are Falken Wildpeak AT/3W. They are true 33s and added 1.5" to my overall clearance height( frame, drive-train, etc ). On road, I barely notice them, off-road they're a much appreciated improvement over the stocks.

I was hoping that Discount Tire would have a July 4th Sale, but with this covid fiasco, they weren't able to offer any such deal, but they did have the best shelf price I could find. I was able lower the price some by applying/receiving a Discount Tire credit card, sold my stock tires to them, and they gave me something of a military/leo discount. They might offer something similar for your line of work.

Additionally, the spare fit under the bed without any adjustments needed ( but it is a snug fit ) and I only get a little rubbing on the fronts while turning and forcing articulation ( typically on the passenger side for some reason ).

Is it for all 3rd gens? or do you need a minimum technology package from factory to be compatible?

In my 35 plus years of being a forester I’ve packed much of that time and I’ve never wished I had a round chambered. I’ve stared down three black bears in that time, killing only one at 25’ at full charge. Very happy to have carried the extra weight, as i probably wouldn’t have survived the one. Luckily never had to pull it on an illegal dope grower, which was a real worry.

I’ve had an employee stare down a Mt lion and he had time to pull it and back his way back to his truck with the cat following at 50’, no harm, foul

Personally, it’s not worth it to have a round chambered, but that’s just me

I think a lot of it is dependent on the gun too. A 1911 for example can be very dangerous if not handled properly. Guns with “hair triggers” like Glocks, etc.. I’ve always and always will carry a revolver where all of this is a non-issue. Gun is loaded and takes a double-action squeeze to go off. The “safest” way to carry.
