Hey guys so I woke up this morning and went to start my 2020 TRD OR and it was super sluggish and made a clicking noise and didn’t start. When I hit the button again it started but had since been reluctant to start. It has 7500 miles on it. Seems like a battery issue but I’m not sure how it could be fried after only 9 months and this low of mileage. Any ideas? I made an appointment with Toyota to take it in this Friday but I’m hoping to self diagnose the problem before I go in and they try to give me some bullshit answers.

I don’t know if the technology has changed since I used to drive tow truck but I remember when push start key fob came out they were draining batteries really bad because people leave their key fob close enough or even in their car for their car to recognize it and it would draw from the battery... I remember doing a lot of jump starts with push button start first came out

Mine sits in my house or in work so it’s usually 30-50’ away at minimum

Some people don’t understand how the push button start works in most cases like a key there is a Acceries
Most people don’t understand how the push button start works just like a key there is an accessory mode & if you don’t push the button to make sure everything is off it will drain on your battery FYi so when you take a key out of the Ignition it doesn’t require thinking about it ignition it doesn’t require thinking about it because the key is out as with push button cars & trucks you have to check & make sure everything is off why I like my truck with a key & not a button

I completely agree! This is my first push button ignition vehicle and I already miss the fact that turning a key “fully shuts off” the vehicle. I’m hopping it’s just a battery issue because when the truck finally started it sounded like shit and ran sluggish for the first 5 miles and now won’t start unless on a charger for a while. When I hooked it to my charger it said my battery was at 3% which is Ridiculous for a 9month old daily driver.... my 22 year old civic that has sit for 4-8 weeks without starting fires up better than this truck right now

Push button start draining a battery is hard to believe. Decades ago I was one of the first to have a huge brick cell phone. I used to leave it in my non switched 12v plug in 86 Honda Accord every night to charge. I’m sure that large oversized battery used more amps than a push button radio receiver today. I never had an issue with my huge cell phone draining a battery.

Not the truck it’s most Likely the battery I just replaced a 12 year old battery that I bought from Kragen auto parts in 2008 for one of my classic cars I keep it disconnected until I use the car and it’s lasted 12 years & I have had brand new lease cars in the past & the battery dies before the lease is up replaced under warranty so never was a problem & just think of all those Tesla & EV lovers who want it to be all battery cars & trucks on the road that should make you very scared

Toyota batteries are adequate for the job, that's about it. If I let mine sit for a week it's dead or nearly so. MIL's RAV is the same way.

Bad connection. 10 mm tighten and adjust and check for corrosion or leaking acid.

Trucks less than 9 months old if there is a leak or corrosion I’d be extremely pissed at Toyota’s quality. I bought the truck with 19 miles on it and it only has 7500 now

Toyota doesn’t make batteries, and a battery is a battery - can leak, can fail prematurely, etc.

Go get a free multimeter are Harbor Freight and check battery voltage across the terminals. Or tow it to the dealer and let them.

Toyota built the truck, shit batteries and shit tires exist because they just need something to get you down the road a couple years and they can’t sell cars without them. :)

There is a reason for warranty’s bring into the dealer they fix the problem & if it gets fixed more than 3 times in a Certain amount of time they buy it back under the lemon law certain amount of time they buy it back under the Lemon law FYi so nothing to worry about.
