So I like to Grab E-Brake/parking brake Handle and slide around a bit from time to time and ive been told that is not the best thing to do to my trucks rear brakes. And after 55k and maybe a hundred times of drifting with my truck my rear brakes when to shit... back story complete.

well now its time to fix i was cheap and had my drums turned down and i bought new brake pad for the rear (not sure the term for them) and i had a trusting neighbor put them on... WELL E-BRAKE never worked again. Like didnt even want to grab a little. He adjusted them. i adjusted the center council E-BRAKE cable nut and it grabbed enough to for the time being.

Well i had some money and was wanting to drift again so i thought i would take the truck to Brakes Plus and have them inspected to see if something was off or could be adjusted.
Well they stated that who ever turned them for me took too much off and they were not able to be adjusted and i needed New Drums and the brake lines needed bleeding and the new pad i put on 2 months ago were able to be sanded down some and reused and that they would adjust my E-brake to grab....

well $400 later and the muther fucker still not grabing.. like i couldnt get my tires to lock up if my right arm was PopEyes. He said my Cable could be stretched and that they arent suppose to be able to lock up the tires that its a parking brake not a emergency brake and should only hold me from moving... well at 5 mph i grab it and it brings me to a slow stop... not a jolting stop or a skid like im expecting after new shit and a brake jobe.

Bull shit.... I need my E-Brake to grab like Shaq on a Rebound.

Any ideas... could i have stretched the brake cables or are those Idiots at Brake Plus just morons when it comes to adjusting them.
and if i do need brake cables where can i get them and what should i expect to pay for just the cables... all of them if there are more then one.

    Sorry it lengthy.

    This thread is WAT? nominated.

It's a PARKING brake, not a rally car brake cornering system.

If the rear brakes are adjusted correctly [clearance between the drums and pads] then yes, you probably need to replace the cable and check the mechanism to make sure nothing has been bent.

Yeah you probably stretched them. Replace the cables and go back to drifting. Or learn to clutch kick and or counter steer, So you can get rowdy without abusing your brakes.

Remember “R” stands for Race and braking is for losers

sometimes it very difficult to equal or surpass OEM equipment

after Ur hundreds o times of doing something f e w would do

there may not be a road back to normal ie ' Parking Brake '

non OEM brake ' shoes ' come in quite a few grades
some with considerably Less stopping power
they will get U a safety sticker & out o the shop only
    not to last very long

id take it back to stock OEM to get same results

The rear drums have a maximum diameter because the shoes can only expand so much. Either cut too much or not adjusted at all and need to make sure all the hardware is correct including the part where the cable grabs the shoes to expand on the inside of the drum. I’ve corrected someone’s diy rear drum brake job before and the adjuster was backwards making the shoe always in the locked or braking all the time position and made the wheel cylinder pop and brake fluid was everywhere. Also you need to adjust while the truck is in neutral but if the truck has lsd then it’s going to be difficult to adjust because turning one drum will make the other side drum turn at the same time.

I think they are stretched.. and no clutch to be clutch kicking like i did in the 240sx... But non the less i was able to do it till the day i heard the metal on metal and the rear shoes were bald on one side of each shoe tapering to almost new like they were only grabbing on a quarter of each pad/shoe.

How many Cables are there to replace. Is it all one? or is there a few to replace that all connect to the one system for the rear Hand brake?

Stock parking brake is more than adequate, something is going on there. When I got my truck, just as a test to check it out, I was going down a decently steep ramp in a parking garage and pulled it gradually 3 clicks. Tires locked instantly and skidded a few feet but truck stopped and it held solid without my foot on the brake.

Do it 100 more times at 40 mph and see if it’s still adequate, otherwise not relevant to OPs use. He fucked it up.
