How to Drain/Refill Automatic Transmission

On a 2011 Taco using Torque Pro PID, which temperature do I use? The pan (A/B) or the converter outlet temp (C/D)?

 

I was going to attempt to do this today. But before I did, I wanted to make sure I could get the truck in AT Temp Mode. I went through the process. After the 6 gear shifts, the AT Temp light came on solid. Never flashed or turned off. It stayed solid for about 5 minutes and then it started flashing. That was first thing this morning. Truck was cold and had not been driven since the night before. I let the truck sit for a few hours, then tried again. Same result. Any thought on what I may have done wrong?

 

For me, it was easier to just use my OBDFusion app, verify my Trans pan temp was between 115-130 degrees, and check the fluid level that way. Much easier than having to put the truck in TEMP CHECK MODE.

 

Did you watch the video in the first post of this thread? That shows the whole process, maybe you just missed something or had the timing of the shifts wrong

 

I was trying to save a few $$$. I watched the video over and over again and no luck. Ended up ordering an OBD device (Veepeak). Arrives today. Of course I decided to do this during a SoCal heatwave. Most likely a lack of patience on my part. What was I thinking...Hopefully I can get the OBD working. I need to wrap this up today.

 

Yeah, I would watch the video and mimic the dude. That's what I did my very first time in practice and it worked. The last couple times I did it without paying attention to how many times I shifted and it worked np.

 

I think you actually did it right but just missed the 1 quick flash of the temp light that indicates your in temp check mode. When the light was solid, it was time to check and when it flashed it was to hot.

Or it was ready to check when the light stayed on the first time because the fluid was all ready warm enough.

 

It is now ten o’clock in SoCal and I’m fed up and tired. Tried to get the truck in AT Temp mode. FAILED! Tried using an OBD device with the Fusion app. FAILED! I’m out of money, beer, and patience. It’s time to ballpark it. Run it for 10-15 minutes before I pull the overflow plug. Any last minute thoughts or opinions? I won’t be offended...

 

What went wrong with the OBD Fob/Fusion app? FYI, you can modify your displays to show exactly what you need. I have mine to show 115-130 degree range in green.

 

No idea. Purchased the Toyota Enhanced PIDs and everything. I tried to setup the dashboard and the gauge. Problem is, I never found anything that said AT Temp. Nothing close. Couldn’t find the Toyota add on. Kept asking if I wanted to restore purchases. Even after I selected my model year. So I manually entered the AT Temp equation. Sort of worked. I setup the gauge and everything. Problem was I was getting a reading in the negatives. -40 degrees at one point. Pretty sure the tranny wasn’t getting colder as I ran the engine. I’ve seen other members post step by step instructions on navigating through OBD Fusion. They’re always missing a step or two or it doesn’t match what I’m seeing.

 

Add the A/T Temp display like this:

 

You could get a IR heat temp gun and shoot the pan.

 

My screen shots look nothing like this. I have an iPhone so starting to think that’s the problem.

 

I have iPhone and iPad no problem.

 

What OBD device are you using? Does Bluetooth or WiFi make a difference? I wonder if that’s the problem.

 

Open your app, go to settings and post a pic of that page.

 

Try an infrared temp gun, the pan will be a little cooler then the oil, but that should help you get in the ballpark range.

 

I was thinking about buying an expensive pressurized pump, but if you say this works good, I might save $50 and forgo this pump below.
