Wheel spacers.... Y/N?

That is exactly what I want for my truck. Can you provide me with the wheel spec. on what you ordered? I assume you got them direct from Bora. I did the same on my F150 and I feel confident in running their spacers. Great quality!!

 

Assuming you torque the wheel spacer correctly and then your wheels correctly AND retorque them after whatever miles, this is perfectly fine as a DIY project.

If it’s not, then neither is a tire rotation.

 

Wheel spacers are like running down the road with a small prybar on your wheel bearings. The spacers will shorten wheel bearing life.

 

Not really evidence of anything, but here's one data point...

In 2008 I took over driving my wife's '04 4Runner as my daily driver, which at that time had about 120K miles on. I added a lift and a set of Spidertrax and proceeded to drive it for another 8+ years with absolutely zero issues. I removed lift and spacers @ 255K miles just before I sold the truck in 2017 to the wife of a fellow forum member (he actually bought the Spidertrax from me for use on his 2nd gen Tacoma). The original wheel bearings were still in great shape when I removed the spacers and as far as I can recall, my running of the spacers for 130K+ miles never resulted in the death or dismemberment of myself, my family members, or anybody else known or unknown to me. YMMV.

 

Yeah so does running wheels with a 0 or negative offset. Or running 33s, or 35s, or armor. You could say literally anything you do to change your truck from stock will have an effect on X part. I ran spacers for years on my ranger and wheeled the shit out of it and never broken anything the whole time I owned it.

Tacoma(2016-2020) 0.75" Aluminum spacers, 6x139.7 bolt pattern, 106 hub.
Only 3k miles, but so far so good.

 

No apologies needed, there's a lot of controversy over spacers - as you can see from the responses in this thread.

Spidertrax and BORA are the two main name-brands you'll see for spacers.

They're no harder on the truck than having wheels with the same offset on the front wheel, which is to say, they don't have any appreciable affect.

The key to having a good experience with spacers is proper installation and checking on them every tire rotation. Use the correct torque settings and use loc-tite to make sure they're on there tight. When you rotate your tires or take them to a shop to do so, make sure they're tightening the last bit with a torque wrench and not just pounding them in with an impact gun (see also why I always use Discount Tire).

I run a set of well-rated knock-off spacers that push the wheel out 1.25" / 32mm. I now have 40k miles on them through 2 sets of tires and rotations every 5k miles with no issues. I offroad a fair bit, tow a lot, and my truck is really heavy (see the build thread in my signature), and they've worked great the whole time.

This is a good post, except I’ll disagree on one point. The locktite. Don’t quote me on this as it’s been a while but I think even Bora days don’t use it.

Plus think about it. You don’t locktite your wheels and you can’t really re-torque something with locktite.

 

1.25” spidertrax no issues. Definitely makes it look way better IMO

 

I used the blue tube, the red stuff is more permanent.

I’m using the same spacers also! No problems! As long as you torque everything in correct sequence you should be good. I used the blue loctite to mount the spacers also. Bought the extended lug nuts but didn’t have to use it though.

 

I had 1.25inch on my stock wheels with 265/75/16 Falkens, before getting methods.
It sat a little bit further out And did fling out rocks and mud like the other comment stated.

That's a beauty. My truck came with the 3M film guard on the bottom 6 inches of the truck ( not sure if they all do? ) but should help. I like the way your truck looks. Same colour as mine, that has a nice aggressive stance.

I’ve had spacers on 500awhp WRX, 400hp brz, Datsun 510, first gen 4runner with 35’s, and my Tacoma with varying widths for around 20k. Current setup the rear is a 2” front is 1”. I haven’t had a single issue with spacers on any vehicle I’ve ever had.

 

Yeah when it's dirty you notice it a lot more, almost looked like a big scratch. Texture is different a little bumpy, hard to describe.
