RAM GPS Mount

I’ve tried several mounting methods for my GPS. From suction cup mount to dash mount and now I’m trying something different. I was inspired to make this mount by this post:

To follow are some pictures and commentary if anyone is interested in doing something similar.

Started with a few things I had around the house. The ball mount is a standard RAM Mount Part with 1/4in. threads. Here’s a link to the part: http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045066045050049056045049085/Default.aspx



This will replace one of the mounting screws for the “Oh-Shit” handle on the drivers A Column.



Here’s a better shot.



Removed the handle and ran power wire to a switched source in the fuse panel.

Cool Mount.. same GPS I use as well. Suction cup seems to work for me though in the same location. Have had it there for years but I do have to re-stick it back up from time to time.

 

thats cool as hell! wonder if those bits will work on my garmin nuvi. would be nice to tuck it into that corner where my state inspection and registration stickers already block the view. as soon as i moved here in aug, my suction cup failed and knocked out 3 ac vent louvers. pissed me right off too.

 

Should work fine with a Nuvi. Check out RAM Mounts for a cradle to fit your Nuvi the rest of the mounting hardware is very universal.

I love ram mounts. I've used them on my motorcycles. That looks like a good place to mount one.

 

For certain Garmin products, I know they have a cradle which can accept power adapters so you'll always have power to the unit and don't have to plug it in to the cigarette lighter. Here's an example for the old Quest:

How di you guys like on the left hand side? Are you left handed?

Only ask because I find myself using the nuvi a lot as I drive. Traffic alerts come up, see where the nearest this or that is. Not sure I could type things the same way if it was on the left hand side being right handed.

 

DBLd, I am going to order the parts. I have the exact same GPS as you, so according to my research I need to order the RAM GARMIN 60 SERIES HOLDER along with the mount you listed in the first post. I already have the garmin power cord. Anything else I need to order from RAM?

 

those ram mounts are great! The suction mounts come in handy. I have an old Garmin and have it installed between the gauges and the radio on top of the dash. unfortunately, I still haven't hard wired it in. I've been thinking of getting a ram mount for the blackberry too, but think that the space left of the center cup holder would be a good spot for it. I'm going to look for a blackberry holder to fix to that open area or just a rubberized tray to stick some double sided tape to in that spot.

 

I love my RAM mount. Very solid and completely adjustable.
