I never got the rolling coal thing. It just seems childish. Granted, there's a difference between going closer to the edge with boost and timing and rolling coal, but those guys have turned me off any of the interesting diesel tuning. I remember hearing about Banks for the first time reading about the Trans Am they built for Car and Driver that did 200 MPH in the early 1980s.

The immediate deletion of emissions equipment on modern cars is one of those things I don't get. I was browsing Reddit and someone was asking how do a test pipe with cat deletes on a 2019 Corolla. It's like, maybe you'll get 2-3 HP, if you're lucky.

Teaching people how to drive the car so it doesn't blow up again in the future should be key. It's not terribly difficult unless you're a dolt. I'm hoping to get back into one in the next decade or so.

My wife made me do that when we went to VA Beach. We traded off all the areas we didn't like and it worked great. I asked for her to do CT (I hate driving in CT), I did NY and NJ, she did MD and I did the bridge-tunnel.

Well this isn't ever a good sign...I can still hear him so he didn't crash. Look at the planned altitude vs actual...

I agree with you there. My truck will start to have a little smoke when I'm pushing into boost, and as the turbo kicks in, it goes away. Although, I do use the smoke as a "you pissed me off, here's some darkness" tool. Also once in a blue moon I'll load up the engine and take off for some smoky smoke because I'm mentally 3 years old.

Emissions systems in a Corolla are completely different than a performance car or a truck. In my STi, the cat was deleted to allow for the most free-flowing exhaust possible. Could I still make good power with one installed? Sure! But would I miss the wooshy turbo noises? You betcha!

On a diesel truck, the emissions systems rob all sorts of power from them. Not to mention, they're ungodly expensive, and really the only things you see go wrong on a modern diesel are the emissions control devices and their related sensors and doodads.

And as for teaching people how to drive, a lot of these people will just get a Cobb tuner, install an off-the-shelf tune, beat the absolute bag off the car, and wonder why it ran lean and grenaded...

    How did he end up?

I was sitting watching some Ice Hockey on the Tivo and enjoying some chips and salsa the thing flew right over my house low and slow. With the cloud cover it sounded like it was going down...It ended up flying that low and lower all the way to norwood airport and landing...Just oddly rerouting around that storm I guess. I looked it up and he should have had plenty of fuel. That plane can handle 3,200nm.

I agree. The flat billers that roll coal are going to run diesels for everyone. That’s the type of tuning I was specifically talking about avoiding. All they are doing is over fueling the engine which, aside from rolling coal, has the added benefit of over heating the turbo and fuel washing the cylinder walls. Rolling coal isn’t an automatic result of deleting. Early diesels didn’t blow coal everywhere, that’s the result of crappy tuning. A responsibly deleted truck might have a little puff of black smoke on take off or if you really give it the beans under high load then clear up quick. As far as the emissions crap, everything behind the engine doesn’t really bother me, it’s a pain, it’s electronic crap but it’s not going to actually hurt the truck. The EGR is another story, it’s just feeding the truck it’s own shit and ends up making the oil a LOT dirtier which leads to premature engine wear. I’d love to ditch the EGR.

We’re camping, that storm was no joke! It was amazing how fast the water was running off the awning, I almost didn’t get it pulled down fast enough. I was sitting outside on the picnic table on my laptop (working on vacation, I know), saw the sky get really dark, really quick then the sky opened up about 15 seconds later. No wind here though.
