Well that was an easy dash cam install.

I actually still love it and actually used to it today because my alarm went off. The app isn’t as easy to connect as it could be, but it works. With the heat I have heard it go into heat protection mode a few times. But out of all the dash cams. I think this one is the best next to the 4k version. I honestly just don’t like the way that one look on my windshield. And all the other ones dangle and I can’t stand it.

Nice, I'm starting to lean towards this model too. Did you run the constant and switched lines to the fuse box by the driver's left panel? Was the rear line a pain in the ass to run?

I'm leaning towards this because of it's size. Some of the Amazon reviews have stated the the unit gets very hot. Have you experienced that?

my garmin mini gets waaayyyy hotter than the dongar adapter. i dont pull videos from it very often (maybe twice in the 4 months ive had it), but the drive app on my phone is a pain to use. connectivity problems and whatnot. idk if its a power thing or just a poor app. my garmin connect app seems to work fine. (it could have been me trying to download stuff while garmin was hacked or something)

Yeah this sucks. I was going to look into using my GoPro as a dashcam to avoid having to buy another device but it really is a lot to have to manually do on my own (hit record, stop recording etc)

Same. I want a dash cam with parking mode that won’t overheat. Someone else said the Nextgear is good but I’m worried about having to run wires. I’m not confident in doing electrical for the always on power. I think Blackvue also has a power box.

For those of you wondering what the hard way looks like... I installed a dash cam, radar detector, and remote start all at the same time.

Yikes! So tell us, how many spare screws did you end up with at the end? The dad in me would scold you for putting those screws on the floor mat. You are supposed to save old tunafish cans for this purpose!! (I inherited my father's tin can collection and I still have many Chicken of the Sea cans from the 1970s)

Edit: Also, do you have really chapped lips or something? Why does it look like there are two Burts Bees chapsticks on the floor?

There are two screws and one bolt that need to be removed to drop that lower dash panel. I don't know why there are two bolts on the floor. I don't use old tuna cans, but I do put the hardware, put it in baggies, and tape the baggies to the panels. That way I have them where I need them when it's reassembly time.

The only two suggestions I would make are to disconnect the wiring from that panel and put the panel somewhere out of the way. It's just going to be a PITA trying to run wires. Also, I've adopted a "No tools on the seats" rule. Along with "No tools in my pockets" rule. That way the risk of poking a hole in the seats is eliminated. It would be even worse with leather seats.

It's probably too late, but here are links to my two installation posts in the "Clean VHF/CB Install" thread.

@HisDad , I was just poking fun... It is obvious to me just from your photo that you knew what you were doing... Also after looking at your photo I have decided to put off a full dual cam hardwire set-up for my first dash cam. It really looks like a PITA to install, especially considering the fact that every single dash cam system on the market has buggy issues with their smartphone apps, and overheating issues on hot days. The chances are good that in a few years I would want to rip out a dash cam from 2020 and replace it with a more reliable unit in just a couple of years. I think I'll start out with the simple plug and play garmin mini with the rearview mirror connector, and use it for a year while I wait to see if the perfect dual dash cam with park monitoring emerges.

So thanks for posting that photo!

That was Knuckledraggers picture. My pictures are in the linked posts. I've pretty much setttled on the Garmin Mini and DonGar connector at least for now. I'm going to call Crutchfield and ask a few questions and then order it. I have a $25.00 credit there, so it will be a good way to use that.

I connected it to my stereo. And the rear was easy. Just tuck it in the headliner.

Anyone have this issue? Or know why this would have happened? Its a review on Amazon.

"Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2020
Blew a Circuit On My 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport
After connecting this adapter, It blew a circuit which caused my TSS to stop functioning and error lights all over the dash board, power windows stopped working, HVAC fan not working, and who knows what else stopped working. Now has to go into the dealership to find out what happened. Hopefully repair will be under warranty as my 2020 Tacoma only has 250 miles on it. I'm not certain if it blew my dash cam or not. I won't knock the product because there are a lot of positive reviews, just use caution if you try this item.

EDIT: After getting my Tacoma back from the dealership, I can report that this adapter caused an ECU circuit to blow. Was a quick fix by the dealer, but still a pain in the tushy because this happened the beginning of a long holiday weekend. No A/C, No Power windows and it hit 90 degrees."

maybe it was a faulty adapter wired wrong? Are the 2020 mirrors different than previous years?
