Hey guys, I've read a lot about 1st gen shells on a 2nd gen, but not the other way around. I am assuming its possible but wondering if anyone has done it and has any advice or any pictures of one.

    here is my truck

It looks like the 2nd gen bed is 3/8 narrower than a 1st gen on the inside dimension, but the lip is a lot wider. don't you think it could still fit?

Depends on where the cap connects to the bed. If the outside of the cap is along the outside of the bed (which is what it looks like in the pic), then its going to be off the edge of the 1st gen bed.

The cab probably won't line up either.

Ya, I agree that will overhang the edge of the bed a good amount and it definitely won't look streamlined, but I think it would still be water proof.

as far as the cab lining up I am interested to see what it looks like, that's why I was hoping someone has done it haha. but I guess the reason we don't see it is because it doesn't work very well!

also a cab high shell would look a lot worse, I think the hi top or a mid rise one wouldn't look as bad.

Tbo it would be less headache to search local car dealers and find a topper that matches your truck and color and just ask them the question would you part with the topper That’s what I did and I got an exact match with carpet lighting chanting and Yakima racks basically a top and topper for 500 bucks that sells for well over $2400 now

I had a 2nd gen ARE utility shell on my 95. It fit ok but looked kind of wonky. The front is about 6” wider overall so it had a decent overhang on both sides. The rear fit a little better but was still about 2” wider. The newer Tacoma beds are tapered unlike the forest gen. Don’t think I have any photos though...

Too wide, but for some reason you seem dead set on getting a 2nd gen camper...

Because I am having a hard time finding a first gen high rise shell. And my friend has one on his first gen that he’s getting rid of.

Hey, I have the same exact situation and would like to know what Zimm! found out or tried if anything. I don't mind if the 2nd gen looks a little wonky on my 1st gen, I just don't want it to leak. Thanks
