That happened to me with PayPal. I did the same, told the guy to fix it, I left the money there (didn’t transfer it). I didn’t even think of scams, just didn’t want to deal with it.

If you read the VENMO TOS it says "Only intended for payments between family members and close friends" so their stance was "Well, if you don't know this person why are they sending you money?"

Well then that makes it real easy. Person who fkd up sending money can sort it out with Venmo.

Good heads up on the Pigeon Drop scam.

The other thing they do is may a payment with a stolen Credit Card or use the stolen CC to buy Amex Gift card and THEN transfer the AMEX gift card balance to VENMO and then you pay them back and then initial payment gets cancelled by the Credit Card company and you're shit outta luck...

    That reminds me...

Twenty-something years ago, the IRS sends me a refund check that I wasn't supposed to get - think I paid a little bit of owed tax that year. So I was surprised and a bit skeptical upon receiving a ~20k check from the Treasury/IRS. I just sat on the check, didn't deposit it, and contacted the IRS.

After two or three weeks of trading phone calls they finally figured out their error and I get a letter saying they wanted the money back plus interest.

Spent *another* couple weeks getting them to realize that since I never cashed the check, the funds were never in my possession, and thus there's no interest for them to collect.

What a cluster. I can only imagine what it'd be like with electronic funds transfer now.

Similar to the "package forwarding" scams -- stuff bought on stolen cards/funds and shipped to you for you to then forward on to the scammer. Charge denied, retailer comes after you for the value, you're sitting there SOL.

Don't company values drop on the ex-dividend day by the amount they'll be paying out? It's not always exact, but the company loses that exact amount of value (in theory).

Yea, is that on ex div or pay date? Looking back at cvx and xom, they both dropped on the last pay date and ex div date. I always heard ex div was from people selling after securing div and then moving to the next div date on their chart. Buy right before ex div, then sell before it loses more value than the div was worth. But I guess I’ve never really studied it. Could be some of both I guess

@Boyk1182 Tell me your thoughts on SPG. They are buying bankrupt businesses, but they may go bankrupt themselves. Possibly partnering with Amazon for fulfillment/distribution centers could be a plus or it could work out bad too. I’ve worked with Amazon and they are kind of pushy and make a lot of demands.

I bought 81 shares of INTC instead, they’re a great buy right now. My plan now for my 2,551 shares of NRGU (I hate myself) is to hold on for however long it takes to get in the green again and sell

Bro, that is a 3x Leveraged stock, no? The longer you hold, the less of a chance you will ever be able to be in the green again.

    https://seekingalpha.com/article/4107640-playing-fire-how-long-can-you-safely-hold-3x-leveraged-etf

Been there, done that. Your timeline has to be short with those types of ETFs/ETNs.. there is no winning if you hold for too long.

I think it's solid. It has a good dividend, and a 5-year dividend CAGR of 10.68%. I am sure it will be fine (and probably a good choice to get into now), but may have a bumpy road short-term. I am already in O, IRM, and FRT, and other REITs within SPHD, otherwise I'd be looking at it for sure.
